Visit www.lanecounty.org
for a detailed list of service
changes that would be imple-
mented if AFSCME employees
strike on Oct. 18.
In the Florence and
Mapleton areas, the most direct
impact will be in a reduction of
hours at Lane County Waste
Management, which would be
closed
Sunday
through
Tuesday, and open only to
commercial dumping
Wednesday through Friday
from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Public dumping would only
be open on Saturday, from 10
a.m. to 3 p.m.
Information will be updated
as needed.
Community members with
questions about affected serv-
ices are encouraged to call the
hotline at 541-682-3977. The
hotline is open between 9 a.m.
and 4 p.m., Monday through
Friday, until resolution is
reached or until the strike ends.
Lane County has been work-
ing with AFSCME leaders
since March 1 to come to an
agreement on updated terms
for a three-year contract (2017-
20). The county has made a
proposal that is similar to con-
tracts already accepted by five
other employee labor organiza-
tions at Lane County.
While Lane County is com-
mitted to reaching an agree-
ment that balances providing
competitive wages and benefits
with being responsible stew-
ards of taxpayer resources, it is
also actively preparing for a
strike.
Information about the labor
negotiations process itself is
available at www.lanecounty.
