S IUSLAW : 12 M ARSHFIELD : 45
The Vikings, outnumbered nearly 3-
to-1 in terms of roster numbers and
experience, continued to battle through
all four quarters, even after entering the
half with a 42-0 deficit.
The Viks managed to score twice in
the second half while the Pirates posted
a field goal to finsih with a 45-12 win
on the Viks’ Homecoming Night.
After being off the gridiron for
nearly two weeks after forfeiting
their previous Friday to North
Bend, the Siuslaw football team
was back in action last Friday
night to take on the No. 2-ranked
Pirates of Marshfield — a team
that will most likely join the
newly-formed Sky-Em League in
2018.

Olalla Reservoir has
been stocked with about
100 surplus summer steel-
head from the Siletz Falls
trap, this season. These fish
get fairly active in the lake
and offer a unique fishing
experience.
Once in the lake they are
considered “trout” and do
not require a Combined
Angling Tag. Anglers are
reminded, however, that
only one trout per day over
20 inches may be retained,
and these fish will almost
all be in that size range.
Mid Coast lakes been
stocked with trout through-
out the spring. Trout stock-
ing is over until the fall but
there still should be fish
around to catch. Water
temps are great and fish
should be hungry.

The Sailors football team continued
to chart a course to the state play-offs
last Friday with a decisive win over vis-
iting Siletz Valley. The win secures
Mapleton at least a play-off game for a
chance to make the state play-offs.
