S IUSLAW : 13 D OUGLAS : 56 I n the week before last Friday’s 43- point loss to Douglas during Siuslaw’s football league opener, Siuslaw High School officials were already discussing their concerns over the team’s upcoming game against undefeated North Bend (4-0) — a team that is literally and figuratively twice the size as Siuslaw. It’s an equation that members of the Oregon School Activities Association Reclassification Board have been wrestling with for the past year in an attempt to level the playing field for schools within leagues where the dis- parity between school sizes has become more prevalent. STRIDES MID COAST LAKES: Olalla Reservoir has been stocked with about 100 surplus summer steel- head from the Siletz Falls trap, this season. These fish get fairly active in the lake and offer a unique fishing experience. Once in the lake they are considered “trout” and do not require a Combined Angling Tag. Anglers are reminded, however, that only one trout per day over 20 inches may be retained, and these fish will almost all be in that size range. Mid Coast lakes been stocked with trout through- out the spring. Trout stock- ing is over until the fall but there still should be fish around to catch. Water temps are great and fish should be hungry. SIUSLAW RIVER: Oct. 1 10:13am / 6.0 3:42am / 0.9 9:46pm / 6.3 4:02pm / 2.6 Oct. 2 10:50am/ 6.3 10:36pm/ 6.6 N. On the surface, last Friday’s game at Yoncalla seemed to reflect a lopsided win from start to finish. But Mapleton coach Jeff Greene wouldn’t agree with that summation. “The final score definitely didn’t reflect how hard our kids played, or the challenges we faced to compete,” said Greene, whose team lost one of its key See SAILORS 3B Chinook, trout Fall Chinook ishing is starting to pick up in tide- water.
