On Thursday, Sept. 7, a Chevrolet minivan drove into the Oregon Cardiology Coastal Clinic building’s waiting
room at PeaceHealth Peace Harbor Medical Center. According to Florence Police Commander John Pitcher, the
driver of the vehicle accidentally hit the gas pedal, causing the vehicle to jump the sidewalk and drive into the
clinic. Though staff was in the building at the time, no one was in the waiting area. “We are relieved to report
that there were no injuries sustained as a result of the collision,” said PeaceHealth spokesperson Sarah Allen.
“Our security team acted swiftly in safely evacuating building occupants. We would like to thank local police
and emergency personnel for their quick response.” According to Allen, the cardiology clinic will remain closed
until PeaceHealth can determine the impact to the building. “We thank the community for their understand-
ing,” she said.
