lorence’s annual treasure hunt
begins all over the area on Fri-
day, Sept. 8, and continues through
Sunday with Rods ’n’ Rhodies Invi-
tational Car Show weekend.
Th e fi ft h annual Community-wide
Garage Sale has dozens of locations
throughout the city and surround-
ing communities, as well as many
business participants in Old Town
and the Antique District on High-
way 101. All are listed in the direc-
tory map (see pages 3-4).
Th ere are treasures aplenty out
there just waiting to be found!
If you’re a seasoned garage-saler,
you probably don’t need help. But if
this is all new to you, here are a few
hints to help make the day extra fun.
1. Pick an area or neighborhood
to start in, then use a highlighter to
help map out your “plan of attack.”
You’ve got a lot of ground to cover
— stay organized.
2. Pack some extra boxes, sacks
and/or packing paper in your car. It’s
always a big disappointment to get
home with a fragile fi nd and discov-
er that it’s been broken in transport
because it wasn’t carefully wrapped.
3. Bring plenty of change and
small bills. You are going to need
them!
4. Take snacks and beverages
along to keep you fortifi ed. Th is
garage-sale stuff is serious business
and takes a lot of energy.
5. Be friendly. Have fun. Don’t be
afraid to negotiate, but haggle fairly.

tional Rods ’n’ Rhodies Car
Show and Community-wide
Garage Sale this weekend,
Sept. 8 to 10.

Th e event, organized by the Florence
Area Chamber of Commerce, showcases
more than 100 of the best high-end hot
rods and custom cruisers from the west
coast, dozens of private and commercial
sales all over town and other family-
friendly events.
“It’s a high-octane weekend at a spec-
tacular time of year here in Florence,”
said Chamber Executive Director Bet-
tina Hannigan. “Th is year’s ‘American
Graffi ti’ theme will rev-up the weekend
from start to fi nish.”
Bargain hunters can cruise the treasure
trail to see dozens of commercial and
private sales all over town from Friday
through Sunday. Th is is the fi ft h year of
this popular, ever-expanding event.
“Rods valued in the range of $250,000
are regulars at this event,” added Hanni-
gan. “We’ll have the ‘American Graffi ti’
tribute cars, the famous Copper Caddy,
a special screening of ‘American Graffi ti’
with a costume contest, several show-and-
shine locations, a classic cruise, vendor
fair, poker walks, a Pinewood Derby open
to the public, lots of prizes and awards,
and perfectly-themed music both days in
Historic Old Town Florence.”
Th ree Rivers Casino Resort joins the
event as a major sponsor this year and
will host Friday’s show-and-shine regis-
tration event featuring four “American
Graffi ti” tribute vehicles, the famous
Copper Caddy featured on Velocity
Channel’s program “Bitchin’ Rides” and
Best of Show winners from prior years.
Mrs. Lane County, Brenda Ivey, will
greet guests during Friday’s show-and-
shine at Th ree Rivers Casino’s Event
Center from 4 to 7 p.m.

Th e “American Graffi ti” Tribute Cars
include a yellow 1932 Milner deuce
coupe, a black 1955 Chevy 210, a 1958
Chevy Impala and a 1969 Vespa scooter
— and will appear at diff erent venues all
weekend.
Th e Invitational Car Show moves to
Historic Old Town for Saturday from 9
a.m. to 4 p.m. where the invited high-
end rides, tribute cars and the Copper
Caddy will be on display again.
A poker walk, raffl es, a Pinewood Derby
open to the public to enter ($5 fee), and
live DJ music will add to the excitement.
Also on Saturday, from 4 to 5:30 p.m.,
the offi cial car cruise will wind its way
through Historic Old Town Florence to
the sounds of ’50s and ’60s music.
Saturday night features a screening of
“American Graffi ti” and an appearance
of the movie’s tribute cars at City Lights
Cinemas, 1930 Highway 101, with a ’50s
and ’60s costume contest at 5:30 p.m.
Th e movie begins at 6 p.m., and stan-
dard ticket rates apply.
