Olalla Reservoir has
been stocked with about
100 surplus summer steel-
head from the Siletz Falls
trap, this season. These fish
get fairly active in the lake
and offer a unique fishing
experience.
Once in the lake they are
considered “trout” and do
not require a Combined
Angling Tag. Anglers are
reminded, however, that
only one trout per day over
20 inches may be retained,
and these fish will almost
all be in that size range.
Mid Coast lakes been
stocked with trout through-
out the spring. Trout stock-
ing is over until the fall but
there still should be fish
around to catch. Water
temps are great and fish
should be hungry, so go
catch them.

Hans Petersen Field, home of the Siuslaw Vikings, was home to another group of local favorites Tuesday
morning as members of the University of Oregon Ducks football team traveled to Florence to escape
poor air conditions in the valley in preparation for this Saturday’s much-anticipated home game against
Nebraska. Though the practice was closed to the public and media due to security concerns, the pub-
lic was allowed to view warm-ups before being denied access once upcoming play formations began.
The Ducks are coming off a 77-21 rout of Southern Utah over the weekend — the second largest win
in Ducks football history since a 97-0 win over Willammette in 1916.

Siuslaw opened its football season at
home Friday, taking on Elmira in what
turned out to be a bruiser for the Viks,
whose air miles weren’t able to over-
come the Falcon’s ground game.
Quarterback Jared Brandt went a
respectable 11-for 19 from the pocket
for 122 yards, with catches from Trent
Reavis, Quincy Rusk, Skyler Loomis
and Mason Wampler.
But Falcons runningbacks Brady
Nagel and Kain Caudell negated the
Viks’ air attack, scoring five touch-
downs on 298 combined rushing yards

for fall Chinook and fish-
ing is starting to pick up in
the bay. Spring Chinook
and summer steelhead are
being caught, and fishing
should continue to
improve.
Recycling hatchery sum-
mer steelhead from the
Siletz Falls trap has ended
for the season. Casting
spinners, drifting bait or
using a bobber and jig can
be effective.
