60th ANNIVERSARY
Jackie & Duane Marble
Jackie and Duane Marble
of Florence recently celebrated
their 60th wedding anniver-
sary.
They were married in
Middletown, Calif., in August
of 1957. The Marbles have
been residents of Florence for
the last 14 years following
Professor Marble’s retirement
as Professor of Geography at
The Ohio State University.
The Marbles have two chil-
dren: Kimberley, who is a res-
ident of Sisters, Ore., and a
senior pilot for NetJets; and
Douglas, who is a retired

Seatbelt ‘Blitz’
continues next
week
Oregon State Police, the
Lane County Sheriff’s Office
and
Florence
Police
Department will continue
working to increase proper
safety belt and child car seat
use during a statewide traffic
enforcement “blitz” through
Monday, Sept. 3. Officers
will also be on the alert for
persons exceeding the posted
speed limit and violating the
“hands-free” cellphone law.
A new Oregon law for
children under two years old
requires they use a child seat
with harness in a rear-facing
position unless the child
turned one year of age prior
to May 26, 2017.

Keppa Elizabeth Fine-Pruitt
pleaded no contest to one count
of Theft and two counts of
Criminal Trespass. She was
sentenced to two days in the
Florence City Jail and not con-
tact or be in or about the resi-
dence or place of the victim.
Dylan Bradley Stahl pleaded
no contest to attempted posses-
sion of methaphetamines. He
must pay $475 in fines and not
contact or be in or about the
residence or place of the vic-
tim.
Levi Piper Harris pleaded
guilty to Attempted possession
of methamphetamines. He was
sentenced to five days in the
Florence City Jail. He must pay
$625 in fines and not contact or
be in or about the residence or
place of the victim.
Kyle Louis Dierks pleaded
guilty to Criminal Trespass and
and Theft. He was sentenced to

Bales who, along with her son,
Ryan and two daughters
(Ashlyn and Kendall), live in
Eugene, Ore.; Hollie Bales,
and her two sons (Jeremy and

Braubuger who lives with her
husband, Jake, in Florence,
Ore.
Mary also had numerous
nieces and nephews who she
greatly loved and enjoyed.
A small informal gathering
of friends and family will be
held at Burns’s Riverside
Chapel on Saurday, Aug. 26, at
2 pm.
At nearly 92 years of age,
Mary deserves a special cele-
bration of her long life.
Everyone in attendance is
encouraged to share fond
memories or funny stories that
they have about Mary.
TAN—Moira R. Tan, 88, of
Florence, formerly of Yachats,
passed away Aug. 20, 2017.
At her request, there will be
no services and private crema-
tional rites were held.
In lieu of flowers, contribu-
tions have been requested to
be made to the KEX radio
fund for Kids for Glasses
through the Oregon Lions
Sight and hearing Foundation
in her name.

BALES—Mary (Mieko)
Bales, passed away Aug. 6,
2017, at nearly 92 years of
age.
She was born in Japan on
Nov. 15, 1925, and was the
eldest
of
four
sib-
lings: two
brothers and
a sister.
Shortly
after WWII,
she met and
married the
love of her
Mary Bales
life, Charles
(“Wimpy”) Bales in August of
1947. A year later, she gave
birth to her first daughter,
Helen (Lilly) of Florence.
When Helen was three
months old, Charles packed up
his young bride and their
infant daughter and made the
15-day trip by ship to the
United States — and Mary
never looked back. She only
made one trip back to see her
family about 40 years later;
she considered the United
States to be her home and the
family she gained upon marry-
ing Charles, her new family.
In addition to daughter,
Helen, Mary has a second
daughter, Karoline Beck who,
with her husband John Beck,
live in Bend, Ore. She also has
a son, James (Jimmy) Bales
who, with wife (Mary) Jeannie
Bales, live in Creswell, Ore.
Mary has two grandsons:
Jason Bauder of Coos Bay,
Ore., and Tony Kies of Aloha
Ore; and four granddaughters:
Tiffini Traylor who, with her
husband Nate and two sons
