CROW’s Advanced Acting Students to perform comedic one-act plays Aug. 18-20

new session of Children
Repertory
of
Oregon
Workshops’ (CROW) Advanced
Acting Program is in session,
and many of the students have
already admitted that they are
both “excited and nervous.”
There is something very spe-
cial about this two-week summer
intensive, directed by CROW’s
Artistic Director Melanie Heard
and
Assistant
Director
Genevieve Meltzer.
The program began back in
2012 when Heard noticed a need
for “older kids” to be challenged
and to become part of a “new
tribe” to help them succeed.

dents have a very large project to
pull off in only two short weeks.
They are going to present two
one-act plays at three public per-
formances to be held Aug. 18, 19
and 20 at the CROW Center for
the Performing Arts.
“Our kids are simply going to
have to work their butts off. We
will show them what it really
means to be treated like profes-
sional young acting students. We
hold extremely high standards
for them, and I have no doubt
that they will meet or exceed
every task we give them,” said
Heard.
Over the course of the camp,
the students, ranging in age from
12 to 19, will rehearse and pre-
pare two comedic one acts, with
familiar themes such as “blind
dates” and “meeting Mr. or Mrs.
Right.”
The One Acts are entitled “It’s
Not You, It’s Me,” by Don
Zolidis, and “Check Please,” by
Jonathan Rand.
Each day, the students will be
immersed in high-level study of
the craft of acting. Topics will
include characterization, motiva-
tion, levels, depth, emotional

Performance times are Friday
and Saturday at 7 p.m. and
Sunday at 2 p.m. at 3120
Highway 101 in Florence.
Tickets are $15 per adult, or
$13 for students, and all pro-
ceeds will support future youth
programming for CROW, as
well as help to supply valuable
materials such as props, cos-
tumes, set pieces and scripts.

these talented, artistic kids,” said
Heard. “Their creativity, team-
work, and dedication are evident
from the moment that they walk
into the room. Plus, these two
one acts are really relatable and
hilarious.”
