HOT RODS TO SHINE AT 10TH ANNUAL RODS ‘N’ RHODIES
Florence will be in top gear
and revved-up for the 10th
Annual Invitational Rods ’n’
Rhodies Car Show Sept. 8 to
10.
The event, organized by the
Florence Area Chamber of
Commerce, showcases up to
125 of the best high-end hot
rods and custom cruisers from
1976 and earlier from the west
coast, along with food, a ven-
dor fair, live and DJ music,
show-and-shines and a classic
cruise.
“This year’s ‘American
Graffiti’ theme will super-
charge the weekend from start
to finish,” said Chamber
Executive Director Bettina
Hannigan. “Rods valued in the
range of $250,000 are regulars
at this event and this year we
have some famous special
guest vehicles.”
“Three Rivers Casino Resort
is joining our event as a major
sponsor this year,” adds
Hannigan. “It will sponsor the
four ‘American Graffiti’ tribute
vehicles and the famous
Copper Caddy featured on
Velocity Channel’s program
‘Bitchin’ Rides.’”
The event starts Friday with
registration and a show-and-
shine at the casino, where
attendees can check out these
incredible rides and Best of
Show winners from prior years,
and visit with owners.
Local food trucks will be on
hand Friday night at Three
Rivers Casino. The “American
Graffiti” tribute cars and
Copper Caddy will be on
exhibit in the Three Rivers
Casino Event Center that
evening between 4 and 7 p.m.
The show-and-shine moves
to Historic Old Town for
Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
and Sunday from 9 a.m. to
noon.

On Saturday, from 4 to 5:30
p.m., the official car cruise will
wind its way through Old Town
to the sounds of ‘50s and ‘60s
music, and the roar-and-rumble
of dozens of classic rides.
Saturday night also features
a screening of American
Graffiti at City Lights Cinemas
with a meet and greet at 5:30
p.m. and a ‘50s and ‘60s cos-
tume contest. The movie starts
at 6 p.m.
A ceremony to announce
merchant awards and best-in-
show award for the vehicles
starts at noon on Sunday. The
best-in-show winner will be
featured on the 2018 Rods ’n’
Rhodies poster.
This year, the chamber will
also bestow a People’s Choice
Award from the popular vote of
attendees. Ballots will be avail-
able at the registration table at
in Old Town.
Raffle tickets will be avail-
able from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and
prizes will be awarded every
half hour. Attendees can also
register for the annual Poker
Walk on Saturday and Sunday.
Participants pick up cards at
participating merchants in Old
Town and try to assemble the
best poker hand to win prizes
from local merchants.
“Rods ’n’ Rhodies also
brings the annual Community-
wide Garage Sale to Florence,”
adds Hannigan. “Visitors can
pick up a handy guide pub-
lished by the Siuslaw News and
cruise the bargain trail to see
dozens of commercial and pri-
vate sales all over town from
Friday through Sunday.”
