he Florence Events Center’s
Gallery One is hosting a two-
month exhibit featuring the
artwork of four members of the
Yachats Art Guild, which continues
through August.
Participating artists are Claire
Good, Carol Summers, Jowanna
Gosselin and Nina Toepher.
Founded in 2008, the Guild is
open to fine artists from the
Central Oregon Coast.
Membership has varied between
18 and 32 artists, working in
watercolor, oil, acrylic, pastel, col-
ored pencil, pen and ink, photog-
raphy and woodworking.
As charter member Carol
Summers said, “The friends of the
Yachats Commons gifted the Guild
with hanging rods for the walls,
enabling the Guild to hang art pro-
fessionally. With the support of the
City of Yachats, and the Friends of
the Commons, the Guild continues
to grow.”

• Claire Good is an accom-
plished, award-winning artist who
uses oil, acrylic and watercolor in
her paintings, and enjoys painting
coastal scenes, landscapes, flow-
ers, animals, birds, people and
medieval villages she has visited.
• Carol Summers is a retired
court reporter, moving to Yachats
in 2003. In 2005, she added
watercolor to her repertoire, study-
ing in Florence with Susan
Weathers. She has been juried into
many shows, and has won several
awards, including an Award of
Achievement from the Watercolor
Society of Oregon.
• Jowanna Gosselin is an
author, designer and teacher from
Florence. She has painted in all
mediums, and most recently felt
fortunate to work with Judy
Murphy painting on many of the
dioramas at the Oregon Coast
Military Museum.
She has enjoyed learning the
many challenges of watercolor
from Susan Weathers.
• Nina Toepher started painting
in her mid-50s. Moving to Yachats
in 1989, she “found the joy and
creativity of watercolor, studying
with outstanding teachers.”
She has received several awards,
including Best of Show and Best of
Class in watercolor and acrylics at
the Oregon State Fair and the
Lincoln County Fair.
