Florene Police Chief Tom Turner (right) awards Brian Lacouture
the Citizen Lifesaving Award for his heroic actions in preventing
violence, pursuing a suspect and aiding police and 911 dispatch
during an altercation in August 2016. “We just want to recognize
our citizens here in Florence for outstanding jobs and perform-
ances like this. This was really something,” Turner said. During
the incident, when a suspect both drove erratically and beat a
woman in the backseat of the vehicle, Lacouture yelled to the
suspect, “You can’t get away with that!” His actions allowed
Florence police to apprehend the subject and rescue both a
woman, who later discovered she was pregnant at the time, and
a one-year baby, who were both in the vehicle. Lacouture
received a plaque, a pin and the Florence Police Department
Coin in recognition. “We are all very fortunate and blessed to
have you as a member of our community,” Turner said.
