USCG Auxiliary offering Vessel Safety Checks
The Coast Guard Auxiliary
recommends a vessel safety
check (VSC) for everyone, even
experienced boaters.
It helps prepare mariners for a
safe boating season. This
Monday, July 3, auxiliary mem-
bers are offering VSCs for recre-
ational boaters at the Port of
Siuslaw from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The exam only takes about 15
minutes and potentially reduces
boating risks for boat owners and
passengers.
Boat owners will be asked
questions about the boat and
safety equipment will be
checked. Vessels passing safety
checks are awarded a U.S. Coast
Guard/Auxiliary decal that
informs boating agencies when
boats are in compliance with
boating equipment laws for
2017.
There is no charge for this
service and no penalty for boats
that don’t pass.

Unitarian Universalists
discuss self creation
The Rev. Dr. Marcia Pearce
will lead the Florence
Unitarian Universalist Fell-
owship worship service on
Sunday, July 2, from 10 to 11
a.m. The title of Pearce’s mes-
sage is, “Self Creation: Loving
One’s Self Through the
Journey.”
Pearce said, “We create our-
selves anew in every moment.
This allows us to decide what
type of person we want to be,
and make the appropriate
choices. Circum-
stances don’t determine who
we are and what we become.
We do. We all want to express
the best of us.”
The UU Fellowship is locat-
ed at 87738 Highway 101 at
Heceta Beach Road and is
wheelchair accessible.
Each service concludes with
refreshments and a dialogue
circle to explore the questions
that come up during each serv-
ice. For more information,
visit florenceuuf.org or call
541-997-2840.
