Total Solar Eclipse, which will extend
between Waldport and Pacific City
from 9 to 10:30 a.m., residents within
100 miles of the ecliptic swath should
also be preparing.
The historic event is expected to
generate the largest mass exodus of
humans in the history of the planet.
More than 1 million people are
expected to travel anywhere from 100
to 300 miles to reach the path of total-
ity that will move through the center
of North America — including 14
states — meaning that residents with-
in those areas will see populations
swell from anywhere between three to
five times normal in the days before
the eclipse.
The anticipated community impact
due to increased traffic and congestion
is expected to begin Thursday, Aug.
S UMMER
17, and last through Tuesday, Aug. 22.
If you were to stay in one place all
your life, the chances of seeing a total
solar eclipse would be slim. Because
of this, the August eclipse will be a
special day as first view of the eclipse
from planet Earth will happen here on
the central Oregon coast. As a result,
eclipse chasers will arrive wanting to
be the first people to experience

SLUGGERS
Most of the North Coast
lakes were stocked with
trout recently. Water temps
are great and fish should be
hungry, so go catch them!
The 2017 trout stocking
schedule is available
online.
ALSEA RIVER: Trout
Trout season opened
May 22, and there should
be some nice cutthroat
around.
Remember the limit on
streams and rivers is two
per day over 8-inches.
SALMON RIVER:
Steelhead
The Salmon River
closed for wild and hatch-
ery steelhead on March 31
to protect spawning wild

SILETZ RIVER:

The Siletz River opened
for wild Chinook on April
1 (1 per day and 2 per sea-

summer steelhead are
being caught. Drift boaters
are having success from
Moonshine Park to Siletz
and bank anglers are catch-
ing hatchery fish in the
Siletz gorge.
Casting spinners, drift-
ing bait or using a bobber
and jig can be effective.
