HARROUN—Eldon L.
“Pat” Harroun, of Florence,
died June 2, 2017.
He was born Feb. 21, 1922,
in Mahaska, Kan. He married
Myrtie E. Reed on Jan. 25,
1948. His parents, Ben and
Ada Harroun, along with two
brothers and two sisters, pre-
ceded him in death.
He survived by his wife of
69 years; sons Jerry and wife
Mary of Centralia, Wash., and
David of Rochester, Wash.;
his daughter Debbie Large
and her husband Don, of
Florence; five grandchildren:
The Lane Community
College Board of Education
honored president Mary Spilde
at its June 7 meeting with
a resolution granting her
President Emerita status and
naming the Lane Community
College downtown campus the
Mary Spilde Center.
The
resolution
cited
Spilde’s “extraordinary achie-
vements on behalf of the col-
lege; her record as the longest-
serving president in college
history; her leadership in the
inter-agency partnership that
financed
the
downtown
campus; her successful efforts
to raise the profile of the col-
lege in the community and
nationally; and her unsur-
passed energy in supporting a
major
gifts
fundraising
campaign that will benefit the
college for generations to
come.”
Spilde retires June 30 after
16 years as Lane’s president,
22 years overall at Lane, and
37 years in higher education.
