2017 Salmon Run to
host kick-off meeting
The Salmon Run, a 5K run
and 3K walk, will be held
again this year on Saturday,
Aug. 26.
Organizers are looking for
interested persons and volun-
teers to assist with this effort.
A kick-off meeting will be
held Thursday, June 8, from
5:30 to 7 p.m., at the Siuslaw
Watershed Council conference
room, 10868 East Mapleton
Rd., in Mapleton.
This run commemorates
Shiloh Forest Sundstrom
(1981-2015), a PhD candidate
in Geography at Oregon State
University, cattle manager at
Rock Creek Ranch in
Deadwood,
a
Program
Director at the Siuslaw
Institute and a vocal advocate
for conservation solutions in
the Siuslaw watershed and
abroad.
While working for SWC 11
years ago, Sundstrom created
The Siuslaw Salmon Run as a
fun and fundraising event.
With the encouragement of his
family, SWC revived the run
last year in his honor as The
Salmon
Run/Walk
and
Celebration.
Last year, there were 74 par-
ticipants.
The goal for 2017 is to have
more than 100 entrants.
Come help plan this year’s
event or call 541-268-3044 for
more information.

Program (STEP), who provid-
ed fishing poles, tackle, bait
and instruction, along with

“Lakes and ponds were fully
stocked, a number of rivers
were open, and of course there
was crabbing,” said Rick
Hargrave, administrator of
ODFW’s Information and
Education Division.
The purpose of the free
recreation weekend was to
encourage people to explore

MEET Copper
Copper is a very pretty, female,
Australian Shepherd mix. She
is 7 yrs old and was recently
surrendered to the shelter by her
owner because this dog needs
a more active lifestyle than the
former owner could provide.
She needs a family who can give
her daily exercise to help her
shed a couple of excess pounds.
This sweet girl is with a foster
family, so if you want to meet
her, please call the shelter for an
appointment.
