ing the state’s annual Free Fishing
Day. The event, aimed at encouraging
Oregonians to get outside and explore
the hundreds of fisheries, included
dozens of activities at state parks.

Steelhead, Chinook, trout
The Siletz River opened
for wild Chinook on April
1 (1 per day and 2 per sea-
son). Spring Chinook and
summer steelhead are
being caught. Drift boaters
are having success from
Moonshine Park to Siletz
and bank anglers are catch-
ing hatchery fish in the
Siletz gorge.
Casting spinners, drift-
ing bait or using a bobber
and jig can be effective.

Golfers tee off ‘Fore’ kids at fundraiser

The 20th annual Fore! Kids Golf
Classic teed off last Saturday at Ocean
Dunes Golf Links. Sponsored by Three
Rivers Casino Resort, the tournament’s
proceeds all went to help fund after-
school programs and educational pro-
grams that give positive guidance and
real-life skills for local youth.
Golfers in the 20th annual Fore!
Kids Golf Tournament head out on
a shotgun start this past Saturday.
The event sold out with a cost of $89
per-player, which included the entry
fee, golf cart, hot dogs, beverages,
awards, a barbecue and raffle prizes.
Two of the Hole-in-One prizes
included a Pebble Beach Golf Vacation
and a 2017 Ford F150. Entrants also
participated in a Million Dollar Shoot
Out Challenge and a $5,000 putting
contest.
During the annual helicopter golf
ball drop fundraiser, Pamela Henry got
a “hole-in-one” for $1,500 and Woody
