Judge selected for
‘Shoe in’ art show
Sadie Ward, of the Old
Town retail store, On Your
Feet with a Splash, has signed
on as the juror for the ‘Shoe In,
Boot It Up and Roll On,’ com-
munity art show.
This show will open in June
at Backstreet Gallery, 1421
Bay Street.
In the past Ward has judged
the Siuslaw Business Award
for the Chamber, a speech con-
test, and a singing contest.
However, shoes have been her
calling for 18 years and for 13
years at On Your Feet.
Ward is an art collector and
she says, “I love art.” Perhaps
because her father was an
artist and also her brother-in-
law, she developed a propen-

Florence Elks Club donates to DAV Van
On Wednesday, May 10,
Elks Exalted Ruler Tom
Hornback, along with
Loyal Knight Jacque
Doerges, presented a
$1,000 check to the
Disabled
American
Veterans (DAV) Van fund
on behalf of the Florence
Chapter of the Benevolent
and Protective Order of the
Elks.
The POE Lodge dona-
tion was presented to
Commander Skip Sitt and
represented 14 years of
continuing lodge donations
to this important local pro-
gram.
The donations help pro-
vide new vans, as well as
maintenance and gas for
orher vans in the program.
DAV operates vans from
Florence to provide free
transportation to VA medical
facilities for injured and ill
veterans. The vans and the
rides are coordinated and
sity for art appreciation.
A Rotarian, Sadie is strong
supporter of the Rotary Club.
She enjoys life here in
Florence with her husband and
two dogs.

art for the show, entry forms
are due May 15.

CORVALLIS—A million
dollars of funding for Oregon
startups
was
announced
Thursday at the ninth annual
Willamette Angels Conference
(WAC).
The Angel investors chose
two winners for its business
plan competition: Hemex
Health and Diatomix equally
shared this year’s $230,000
WAC investment — or
$115,000 each. In addition,
Elevate Capital announced two
$50,000 investments from its
Inclusive Fund for Hemex
Health
and
Heritage
Laboratories, another 2017
WAC finalist. And Business
Oregon announced $250,000
loans from its Small Business
Expansion
Program
for
Moonshadow Mobile, who
won the 2015 WAC, and
DulsEnergy, a 2017 WAC
applicant.
The total awards came to
$830,000. It was also
announced that the Willamette
Angels’ has secured more than
$200,000 for its new W2 Fund

tion, featuring companies in
launch phase, Stoney River
Sinkers of Yachats won the
audience vote for their lead-
free, non-toxic stone fishing
weights. Founder Jesse Dolin
was chosen from the inaugural
RAIN Coastal Pre-Accelerator,
currently running in Florence
and Lincoln County.
The other Speed Pitch com-
petitors were chosen from
