Viewfinders announce May photo contest winners

The theme for the May
meeting of the Viewfinders
Camera Club was “Unreal” and
the results were both innova-
tive and off the wall.
First place went to Betty
Romero for a picture composed
of a man’s face with woman’s
hands coming out of the top of
his head.
Second place was captured
by Bill Stone, who entered a
photo from his “Red Chair”
series.
Third place was picked up
by Ed Wilent for his photo-
graph of a print of a butterfly
escaping from the print.
This was the last meeting
prior to the summer break. In
September, the Viewfinders
will judge the following
themes: “Back Lit,” “Mirrors”
and “Street Scene.”

Leila Garrett of Florence
for submitting the winning easter color contest
entry. Leila is 8 years old and is a student in
Mrs. Green's classroom at Siuslaw Elementary.
Her favorite subject is math.
‘Peace Scholarship’
local winner announced
Truth In Recruiting, a pro-
gram of Community Alliance
of Lane County and the Rotary
Club of Eugene, are pleased to
announce the winner of a $500
Peace Scholarship is Destinie
Tatum from Siuslaw High
School.
Tatum is a senior and she
will receive the grant award at
the May 25 award night at the
High School.
The Peace Scholarships are

Days ‘Show
& Shine’
T-Shirts
available
T-Shirts for this year’s
Rhody Days, “Show &
Shine” car show are on sale
at Twin Lakes Store, located
three miles north of Florence
on Highway 101.
T-shirts will also be avail-
able at the registration booth
set up in the parking lots of
Grocery Outlet and City
Lights Cinema during Friday
Night’s pre-registration from
3:30 to 5:30 p.m. on May 19.
The T-Shirts will be on
sale as well on Saturday dur-
ing the car show at the same
location.
The registration booth
opens at 8 a.m. Saturday, and
will conduct T-shirt sales and
the favorite raffle that runs
from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
This year’s event T-shirts
show two impressive classic
vehicles from local owners
and the U.S. Coast Guard
Helicopter.

FRAA hosts
new show
FRAA’s new Rhody Days
Arts Festival is going to be
held for two days over Rhody
Weekend at the Florence
Events Center.
The art festival will take
place Friday, May 19, from
11 a.m to 5 p.m.; and
Saturday, May 20, from 10
a.m. to 5 p.m.
In the tradition of the Arts
Festival, visitors will experi-
ence the latest artistry in
many different genres. Those
will include painting, jewel-
ry, glass, photography,ceram-
ics, woodworking and much
more.
The artisans participating
will be donating 10 percent
of their sales to support the
FRAA Art Center, 120 Maple
St. in Old Town.
Admission to the FRAA
Art Festival is free to the
public.

individual in Western Lane
County and from Community
Alliance of Lane County.
The awards are also sup-
ported by the Rotary Club of
Eugene as a way to promote
alternatives to military enlist-
ment. The Truth in Recruiting
scholarships are an effort to
support youth who have a
commitment to peace and
social justice.
