Most of the North Coast
lakes were stocked with
trout this week. Water
temps are great and fish
should be hungry.
So far this season, Town
Lake near Pacific City has
been stocked with nearly
200 surplus summer steel-
head from Cedar Creek
Hatchery. In addition, 66
early run winter steelhead
were released there on Jan.
11. Nehalem Hatchery
released 200 surplus winter
steelhead into Vernonia
pond, 57 into Lost Lake
and 60 into Lake Lytle.
These fish get fairly active
in the lake and offer a
unique fishing experience,
especially when the rivers
are blown out. Once in the
lake they are considered
“trout” and do not require a
Combined Angling Tag.
Anglers are reminded,
however, that only one
trout per day over 20 inch-
es may be retained, and
these fish will almost all be
in that size range.
The 2017 trout stocking
schedule is available
online.

Junior baseball players of all ages were at Miller Park on Saturday for the annual Pitch, Hit and Run competi-
tion as part of Siuslaw Baseball Association’s 100-inning Game event. Teams enjoyed a day of baseball, burg-
ers and hot dogs from the snack shack, had team photos taken and participated in competitions of pitching,
hitting from a baseball tee and running the bases for the fastest time. The SBA season continues through May
25, with games on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at Miller Park. (More photos on 4B)

had to contend with inclement
weather last week, with the boys’
Tuesday game rescheduled for
Wednesday, then Thursday — then

Monday.
During Friday’s doubleheader
held at a playable field in Riddle,
Siuslaw senior Kelby White went 2-
for-3 with 2 runs scored during the
opener against the Lancers.
But South Umpqua responded
with a pair of 2-run homeruns by
senior Cody Gray that sparked a 13-

ended the game early based on the
10-run rule.
