I
t took seven pitchers to finish
Saturday’s game between Siuslaw
and Marshfield, with the Pirates
rotating four pitchers — two alone in
the fourth inning — and the Viks
throwing freshman Caleb Hennessee,
senior Brogan Cornish and freshman
Jared Northrop in a 12-6 loss to
Marshfield at John “Jiggs” Dodson
Field.
Both teams generated decent
offense, with the Viks smacking six hits
and scoring six runs. But the Pirates
took the lion’s share with 12 runs on 12
hits. Along the bases, the Viks left 14
runners stranded, with 9 batters striking
out in the process.
Three of Siuslaw’s runs came in the
fourth inning, when a Marshfield relief
pitcher walked all 5 of the batters he
faced, walking in 3 runs.
Saturday’s score was a season-high
number of runs for the Viks, averaging
2.3 runs per game after scoring 23 runs
over the last 10 games.
P IRATES
The loss drops the Vikings to 0-10
for the season and 0-3 since the begin-
ning of Far West League competition
last week, with all three losses coming
from the Pirates (3-0).
The Viks will travel to Winston for a
doubleheader against Douglas High
School on Friday.
Siuslaw has only 6 home games this
season — two of them doubleheaders
— with the Viks’ next home game set
for April 25, against South Umpqua.
First pitch for Friday’s game at
Douglas is set for 3 p.m.

inches in the shot put and a throw of
131-0 in the discus, Siuslaw senior
Carissa Oliver had the day’s fourth-best
marks in both events during last week-
end’s Oregon Relays at Hayward Field
in Eugene.
Meanwhile, Josh Payne had
Siuslaw’s two highest individual finish-
es and the best boys’ team finishes
overall with second place in the 1,500-
meter wheelchair race (5:36.97) and
200-meter race (40.82).
Both were personal records.
Junior thrower Trent Reavis placed
seventh in the javelin with a throw of
164-7, and was 12th in the discus after
landing at 140-11. Reavis was also
sixth in the shot put at 49-7.

NORTH COAST
LAKES:
Most of the North Coast
lakes were stocked with
trout this week. Water
temps are great and fish
should be hungry.
So far this season, Town
Lake near Pacific City has
been stocked with nearly
200 surplus summer steel-
head from Cedar Creek
Hatchery. In addition, 66
early run winter steelhead
were released there on Jan.
11.
Trout stocking began the
week of March 20 in most
district lakes. The 2017
trout stocking schedule is
available online.
MID-COAST LAKES:
The trout stocking
schedule for 2017 is avail-
able online and trout have
been stocked in some
lakes. Fishing for the vari-
ous warm water fish
species are slow as water
temperatures remain cold.
There are numerous lakes
in the Florence area that
can provide good opportu-
nity.
