Siuslaw School District musicians perform with Dallas Brass
On March 29, Seacoast
Entertainment Association
presented The Dallas Brass in
a brass and percussion con-
cert of American music at the
Florence Events Center.
If the theater had a ball-
room floor, fans would have
likely been dancing to the
group’s rendition of “Yankee
Doodle,” “The Pink Panther”
theme and the iconic “Sing,
Sing, Sing With a Swing,” as
well as every genre in
between.
The Brass’ signature
encore includes parts of 36
songs reeled off in under five
minutes folloeing a full two
hours of solid musical enter-
tainment.
Part of the Brass’ core mis-
sion is educating young musi-
cians. Last week’s concert
was an example of a collabo-
beloved American tunes on
stage later that night alongside
the Dallas Brass.

Baha’i to discuss the
many forms of ecstacy
On Monday, April 10, at
6:30 p.m, everyone is invited
to join a group of friends from
varied spiritual paths to dis-
cuss ecstasy.
One of the stages of con-
sciousness which is extraordi-
nary in the sense that most
individuals experience it only
rarely is most clearly illustrat-
ed.
When one gets a sudden
insight into a problem abrupt-
ly, seemingly from nowhere,
pops up an answer for which
one has struggled in vain for
days.
Sometimes such insights
come in dreams, or at
moments of reverie when one
is thinking about something
else: in any case, we know that
the answer emerges from what
are called subconscious levels
in the personality.
Such consciousness may
occur in scientific, religious or
artistic activity alike; it is
sometimes popularly called
‘dawning’ of ideas or ‘inspira-
tion.’
As all students of creative
activity make clear, this level
of consciousness is present in
all creative work.
The classic psychological
term for this awareness is
ecstasy.
The word literally means ‘to
stand outside one’s self,’ that
is, to catch a view of, or expe-
rience something, from a per-
spective outside one’s usual
limited viewpoint.
Temporarily we can tran-
scend the usual limits of con-
scious personality.
This creative self-con-
sciousness is a stage that most
of us achieve only at rare inter-
vals; and none of us, except
the saints, religious or secular,
and the great creative figures,
live very much of our lives at
this level.
But it is the level which
gives meaning to our actions
and experiences on the lesser
levels.
It is as though for a moment
one stood on a mountain peak,
and viewed his life from that
wide and unlimited perspec-
tive.
The public is invited to
attend and share the moments
they “stood on a mountain
peak.”
The gathering will be at 875
Seventh St. The meeting will
end at 8 p.m., with prayer
requests left in the Prayer Pole
in the garden of the Florence
Playhouse.
There will also be prayers
from those in attendance.
