City Lights to screen classic film ‘1984’
Join City Lights Cinemas
as it presents the brilliant
adaptation of George Orwell's
prophetic classic “1984”, as
part of a nationwide showing
of the seminal classic.
Along with the movie, a
filmed introduction from the
movie’s director Michael
Radford and a discussion will
also be presented.
Performances
are
on
Tuesday, April 4, at 12:30
p.m. and 6:30 p.m.
The film tells the story
of Winston Smith, a bureau-
crat rewriting history for
the Ministry of Truth, a sec-
tion charged with modifying
historical news archives for
the totalitarian state of
Oceania.
When Smith accidentally
discovers evidence that the
government is lying, he
begins a journey of self dis-
covery that puts the lives of
himself and those he loves in
danger. Starring the late John
Hurt in his greatest onscreen
performance and Richard
Burton in his last cinema role,
“1984” is the film adaptation
that fans of the book have
been waiting for.
Tickets for “1984” are cur-
rently available at City Lights
Cinemas or online at
www.citylightscinemas.com.
Tickets are $9 for adults, $8
for seniors and students, and
$7 for students.

Old Town Coffee features
Tru the Painting Dog in April
Tru the Painting Dog will be
showing her work at Old Town
Coffee in Florence for the
month of April.
Tru is an artist, philanthro-
pist, champion trick dog, truf-
fle dog and sometimes a dog
just being a dog.
As an artist, Tru’s preferred
medium is working with
acrylics. She enjoys the flow of
the paint as it touches the can-
vas and the flow of treats into
her mouth after each stroke of
the paint brush.
As a philanthropist, some of
Tru’s donations have been to
Fraudville (a fundraiser event
for the boys and girls club),
Bark For Life (canine event for
the American Cancer Society)
and Dancing with Sea Lions
Gala Auction event.

Tru has her favorite tricks she
performs throughout the day.
She also enjoys walking on
Bay Street and if a passer-by
gives her attention, it is time to
perform tricks.
As a truffle dog, Tru loves
getting out among the trees and
using her nose. When she is on
the hunt for the underground
treasure she enjoys an occa-
sional squirrel distraction.
Tru donated truffles to the
Siuslaw
High
School’s
Culinary Arts catering program
to be used at the VIP reception
at Florence Events Center’s
Dancing with Sea Lions
“Splash Off” last year.
Tru also enjoys just being a
dog with long hikes on the
sand dunes or wooded trails,
playing fetch and sleeping.
Tru’s paintings, and the
work of other local artists, can
be seen every day in April from
