Last year’s record:
• The Viking girls were sec-

out by 1 point by Marshfield.
Still, between the boys and girls
teams, the Vikings competed in
16 events at state, including two
state champions for the girls
team.
O UTLOOK :
The Vikings return a strong stable
of talented athletes for both the
girls’ and boys’ teams, including
many athletes from this year’s sec-
ond-place district girls cross coun-
try team and reigning individual
state champion Celie Mans.
That means another strong field
of distance runners, as well as a
group of strong throwers led by
junior Trent Reavis and senior
Coach Chris Johnson
Carissa Oliver, each of whom
advanced to state last season.
In the sprints, senior Destinie Tatum, last year’s 800-meter state
champion, along with fellow senior Annmarie Precht, will lead the
charge for the girls. Senior leaper Abby Watkins will lead the jumps
runway. For the boys, senior Jack Pickell, Siuslaw’s lone senior at
last fall’s state cross country meet, will lead the distance events.
