OPRD offers overnight for novice campers
Lightstation hosts party
for Fresnel Lens B-Day
Heceta Head Lightstation is
celebrating 123 years of the
first fresnel lens shining its
light on the Oregon Coast on
March 30, from 4 to 7 p.m.
Party sponsors, Travel Lane
County, will be providing
warm drinks and cupcakes.
Taylor Sausages will be serv-
ing hot dogs, and Destination
Events has donated a popcorn
machine.
Local musicians Marty
Adams, Sea Strings, and High
Tide will perform at the his-
toric Keeper’s House. State
Park and USFS interpretive
docents will be giving tours of
the lighthouse and light keep-
er’s house, and informative
talks about the Oregon coast
line.
Bring your camera to have
your photo taken on the front
porch with the lighthouse in
the background to commemo-
rate this community supported
family event.
The gift shop will also be
open and newly stocked with
souvenirs and informative
books and videos.
Bring your lighthouse pass-
ports to be stamped.
Entry to the Keeper’s House
is free but donations are gladly
accepted.
Parking is available at the
Heceta Head Lighthouse State
Scenic View Point, just below
the Keeper’s House, and NW
Adventures Quest will shuttle
visitors from the park right to
the front door.
Or enjoy the beautiful
spring walk up from the beach
to the festivities.
Parking at the viewpoint is
$5 per vehicle.
You can support the restora-
tion of the Lightstation and the
birthday party events by enter-
ing a raffle. Entrants can win a
free night’s stay at the Bed and
Breakfast, as well as great
prizes from local artists and
businesses.

The Oregon Parks and
Recreation
Department
(OPRD) welcomes beginning
campers to join in an overnight
guided camping experience
this summer at an Oregon state
park.
Registrations are now being
accepted for the “Let’s Go
OSMB
from 1B
having an enjoyable experience
and so will their passengers,”
said MariAnn McKenzie,
Boating Education Coordinator
for the Marine Board. “There
are no lanes to follow on the
water, so it is important to
know what to do if a boat is
Camping Program.”
Events will be held at nine
different parks. For $30 per
family, OPRD provides tents,
sleeping bags and other gear.
Volunteers will help campers
set up tents, build campfires,
prepare meals in the campsite
and more. Activities could
include ranger-led hikes, owl
prowls, bat chats and plenty of
s’mores.

ing environmental conditions

how to safely interact with
other boaters or water users is
also key to having a good time
out there.
“You never know what
might happen, be prepared,”
she said.
Forty-nine states require
some form of mandatory edu-
cation courses for operators of
some powered boats.
