The Siuslaw Public Library
will
host
“Fish Tales:
Traditions and Challenges of
Seafood in Oregon,” a free dis-
cussion facilitated by Jennifer
Burns Bright about fishing and
seafood in Oregon.
The presentation will take
place Wednesday, March 15, at
1 p.m., at the main branch of
the library in the Bromley
Room.
This event is sponsored by

local seafood can be hard, even
on the coast. The United States
imports approximately 90 per-
cent of its seafood and ships
out nearly as much to the glob-
al market.
Why aren’t we eating more
local seafood, now that pre-
serving and distribution tech-
nologies are the most sophisti-
cated they have ever been?
These questions are the
focus of “Fish Tales,” the free
conversation with Bright, a
food and travel writer based in
Port Orford, Ore.
She recently retired from
teaching at the University of
Oregon, where she researched
desire in 20-century literature,
led a faculty research group in
the emerging discipline of food
studies, and won a national
pedagogy award for a team-
taught, interdisciplinary class
on bread.
She holds a PhD from the
University of California at
Irvine and a Master Food
Preserver certification.
Through the Conversation
Project, Oregon Humanities
offers free programs that
engage community members in
thoughtful, challenging con-
versations about ideas critical
to our daily lives and our state's
future.

Three Rivers Casino Resort
will host a community job fair
Thursday, March 23, from 10
a.m. to 3 p.m., in the Casino’s
Event Center.
The job fair will offer the
opportunity to connect with
representatives from 33 differ-
ent employers. Attendance is
free and all ages are welcome.
“We are honored to host the
community job fair again this
year in our Event Center,” said
Mike Rose, COO at Three
Rivers Casino Resort. “It’s a
privilege to be involved in an
event that provides employ-
ment opportunities to our
community.”
The fair will offer resources
for guidance to a great career.
Participants will have access
to numerous local employers
all in one convenient place.
The job fair will feature on-
hand assistance to job seekers
provided by Worksource Lane
(Employment Department).
“Local businesses and
applicants both know the chal-
lenges when applying for jobs
and locating resources as well.
“The Community Job Fair
brings all those parties and
resources together to form a
network in our local commu-
nity. It’s a ‘one stop shopping’
event that is free and open to
the public — an opportunity to
meet one-on-one with locals
who are currently hiring and
actively recruiting for the
upcoming season,” said Pam
Hickson,
Recruitment
Specialist for Three Rivers
Casino Resort/Confederated
Tribes of Coos, Lower
Umpqua and Siuslaw Indians.
This is a perfect opportunity
to gain access to a range of
diverse jobs represented from
full time, part time, on-call
and even volunteer opportuni-
ties with both businesses and
self-employment.

tact Pam Hickson at 541-902-
