During the last several years,
they relocated from John Day
to be closer to family in
Florence. Evelyn made diverse
career choices that included
working in a shipyard, working
as a cook in her uncle’s logging
camp, bookkeeping, and home-
making. Her most enjoyable
career, however, was her volun-
teer ministry, which took place
over a 67-year course.
When possible, she would
dedicate most of her week to
Bible education work where
she assisted many and formed
many friendships. Her devotion
to her Creator was at the heart
of her volunteer work and the
focus of her life.
She stayed strong in her faith
of the Bible’s promises for a
beautiful future. She was grate-
ful for her family, whom she
adored, and we long for the
time we can see her again.
She is survived by her hus-
band, Richard Robert Holdren;
son Philip (Marie) Holdren;
daughters Dorothy Tison and
Katherine (Jess) Bliss and
Madeline (Roger Smuin; 11
grandchildren, 20 great-grand-
children, 7 great-great-grand-
children; many in-laws, nieces,
nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death
by her daughter, Sarah, and
brother, Robert.
There will be a memorial
service Saturday, March 11, at
3 p.m., at the Kingdom Hall of
Jehovah’s
Witnesses
in
Florence.
The family would like to
thank Evelyn’s caregivers and
those that gave their support
throughout the challenges she
faced.
