Siuslaw High School Student
has entered the International Youth Silent
Film Festival. Their film, “The Flight of
the Bumblebee,” tells the story of a freak
show in black and white. The class has
made props and costumes to match the
1920s era of their film. Raven spent his
time formatting and editing the footage
to match music and time period. If
selected as a winner, their film will be
shown in a theater with a professional
orchestra performing the music.
Aside from film production, Raven
plays guitar and enjoys working on
music production as well. Recently, he is
working on a project involving sock pup-
pets.

aven Fritz, a senior at Siuslaw High
School, has been chosen for a sec-
ond time to be the Artist of the Month.
Raven is a student in Edward Mielke’s
first period Communication Arts.
Raven describes the class as, “more
like a forum than a lecture. Everyone
gets their voices heard.”
Through his experiences and time in
the class, Raven has discovered his real
talent and passion is in video editing.
He has spent time cultivating this pas-
sion and looks at it as a career goal.
Raven explains, “Knowing what I
want to do as a career has helped me
focus my ambitions.”
Raven is the son of Gwaendylan Fritz
and, with the other students in his class,
R
Raven has been accepted into the
University of Oregon and intends to
major in Cinema Studies. He aspires to
become the video editor for a television
show consigned by a company like
Netflix. Stay tuned to Raven’s future and
you may catch his work on the big
screen.

T ALENT S HOW
PTA’s Talent Show, “Siuslaw
Superstars,” is shaping up to showcase
some of the brightest student talent
that Siuslaw has to offer.
This year, thanks to increased stu-
dent interest, each night will feature
different student performers in kinder-
garten through fifth-grade, with spe-
cial middle school appearances.
The event is again emceed by
Siuslaw Elementary Principal Michael
Harklerode.
“Students have been preparing their
acts since early February,” said Natalie
Lyda of the Florence Community PTA.
“We hope the community takes
advantage of this annual opportunity
to see our brave and talented students
up on stage at the FEC.”
The show will run for two nights:
Wednesday, March 8, and Thursday,
March 9, with different acts perform-
ing each evening. The show will
start at 6 p.m. on the big stage of the
Florence Events Center, 715 Quince
St., where attendees will see gym-
nastics, vocal solos, dance, piano
and more!
Tickets are available for just $2 for
PTA members and $3 for non-mem-
bers in the Siuslaw Elementary
office or by emailing nataliely-
da1@gmail.com.
“You won’t want to miss these shin-
ing student stars and an opportunity to
support Florence Community PTA,”
Lyda said.
Get your tickets early! Both shows
are sure to sell out and offer a glimpse
