After the OSAA’s fourth meeting by the Classification and Districting Committee on Jan. 30, the committee submitted revised versions of both its 5A and 6A models this past Tuesday, along with a football-only plan. Under the proposed 6A classification, the Vikings would be part of an eight- team 4A Far West League with Brookings-Harbor, Cottage Grove, Creswell, Douglas, Elmira, South Umpqua and Sutherlin. In the 5A model, Siuslaw would be in an eight-team 3A Sky-Em division with Creswell, Elmira, Harrisburg, Junction City, La Pine, Philomath, Pleasant Hill and Sisters. Though the Sky-Em pro- posal would eliminate 3-hour (one-way) trips to Brookings-Harbor, Grants Pass and Medford for Siuslaw, they would be replaced by 3- to 4-hour trips to La Pine and Sisters in Central Oregon. No changes were made to the committee’s second draft of its football-only plan, with Siuslaw still slated to become part of Special District 4 along with Cottage Grove, Elmira, Junction City, Marshfield, North Bend, North Eugene Highlands and Philomath. The committee will meet again Monday, Feb. 27, at the OSAA office in Wilsonville. Public testimony will take place in the morning before holding a closed work ses- sion that afternoon.
