Regional Arts Alliance (FRAA) is
inviting all artists to participate in
the first “Florence Fest 2017” to be
held March 31 and April 1.
This unique event, which will fea-
ture two days of jazz, art and wine,
will be highlighted by talented jazz
musicians and outstanding wine
from some of the best wineries in
the Willamette Valley.
The juried art section of the event
will provide maximum exposure for
creative artist’s work and significant
prize money will be awarded.
Selections for the exhibit will be
made by Robert Canaga, who is an
accomplished painter, photographer
and printmaker. He has been the
curator for numerous exhibitions
throughout the Northwest, includ-
ing the Gallery at the Watershed,
PeaceHealth Headquarters and the
Coos Art Museum.

be celebrating animals during the
annual “For the Love of Animals”
exhibit, which benefits the Oregon
Coast Humane Society (OCHS) in
Florence.
This is a great opportunity for
artists to showcase and sell their art,
as well as support the local animal
shelter. Domestic animals, wildlife,
sea life, birds — all animal art is on
display at this uniquely-themed
show.
Interspersed with the artwork are
actual photos of animals up for
adoption at the OCHS.

Brisbane (Vardanian Gallery) and
Steve Dennis (Earthworks Gallery).
Prize awards are: 1st place: $1,000;
2nd place: $500; 3rd place: $250

Florence to celebrate best businesses at Siuslaw Awards
The Florence Events Center will be
the site for the ninth annual Siuslaw
Awards on Feb. 8, from 6 to 9 p.m.
The awards banquet, sponsored by the
Florence Area Chamber of Commerce,
recognizes excellence in the local busi-
ness community by naming recipients
for awards of excellence in Customer
Service, Curb Appeal, Non-Profit
Achievement, Community Caring,
Innovation in Business and the Stu
Johnston Business of the Year Award.
In addition, two outstanding individu-
als in the community will be honored
with the Future First Citizen Award and
the First Citizen Award.
The First Citizen Award recognizes
that individual who has given selflessly
to the community based on community
involvement, leadership and overall
community impact.
The Future First Citizen Award recog-
nizes that student based on his or her
academic success as well as civic
involvement and contributions to the
community.
The Florence Area Chamber of
Commerce will also recognize an indi-
vidual or business that has selflessly
given of their time and efforts in sup-
porting the Florence Area Chamber of
Commerce and its efforts with the
Distinguished Service Award.
