was funded with the recent passage
of the bond measure, approved by
voters in November.
“We have been able to complete
three bond related projects,”
O’Mara said. “The first was the
high school septic tank, the second
was the resurfacing of the track
and the new bleachers is the third
project.”

replaced and which parts of the
roof most need to be replaced,”
O’Mara said. “And we are work-
ing closely with our construction
manager, general contractor and
our architectural firm to make
these decisions in a timely man-
ner.”
O’Mara is enthusiastic about
the changes.
As the work progresses, she and
the committee also want to make
the best use of the materials that
are being removed and upgraded.
“We recycled all the metal in the
old bleachers and we did keep the
old bleacher wood,” she said. “We
are planning on incorporating
The new bleachers will cost
about $35,000, with approximately
half coming from the Mapleton
Booster Club. The remainder will
come from the voter-approved
funding measure.
While this project should be com-
pleted shortly, others will require
more thought and time to finish.
Mapleton School District has
until 2018 to complete all bond-
related projects. The planning and
preparation for the more extensive
and involved parts of the refurbish-
ment are being finalized.
“The next step in the bond
process is that our steering commit-
tee has been meeting. They are cur-
rently in the ‘design phase,’ so what
we are doing now is assessing what

the local Kiwanis club for
their generous donation that
is funding the club's 2017
swim project. As part of her
leadership development,
Sarah made a Power Point
presentation to project pic-
tures and details about the
project clubs included under
the umbrella of the commu-
nity club.

Club Junior Leader

Environmental Stewardship
and Outdoor Recreation
(hiking and camping.)
Additionally, as is true of
all 4-H community clubs,
members take part in at least
one service project annual-
ly.

a lot of alumni interested in the

are skilled enough to join
the Fins level this year.

bers have been added to the
swimming project this year
because extra funding pro-
vides for mileage reim-
bursement for an adult vol-
unteer to pick them up from
Triangle Lake School.

tary and middle school are

creative talents — songs,

ing social connections with
the schools and community.

pants have already signed up,
the PTA planning committee
is currently looking for addi-
tional individuals and groups
who would like to showcase
their ethnicity through music,
storytelling, art, games or
other activities and invites

Snow was on the floor and
the holiday lights were aglow
for their holiday shopping as

several times while shoppers
were very busy selecting just
the right items for $2 a piece.

IN A DAY
PTA's first multi-cultural
event “Around the World in a
Day” will take place on
Saturday, Feb. 25, from 11
a.m. to 2 p.m. at Siuslaw
Middle School.
The goal of the event is to
bring students, parents and

in 2016’s wrap up and plans
for all of the fun to come this

HOLIDAY SHOPPE
The annual PTA Holiday
Shoppe was a wonderful suc-
cess again this year with lots
of kids and their parents
enjoying the great selection of
gifts curated by PTA volun-
teer Alice Burns.
PTA served hot chocolate
and cookies one night in a
parent's lounge.
Burns reports, “There is
nothing better than seeing the

dances, skits, comedy and
more — as individuals or
groups to show off on the big
stage.
Information on auditions
will be available to students
soon and the community is
invited to come out and sup-
port the talents of Siuslaw
