With four minutes left in the quarter,

Brookings extending its lead to 34-22

On Friday, Mapleton host-
ed visiting Falls City in a
non-league matchup that saw
what was arguably one of the
best performances of the sea-
son from both Sailor teams.
In the girls game, the Lady
Sailors
held
the
Mountaineers to just 27
points, finishing the game
with just four players and
holding Falls City in a tie
until the final minute.
“I was proud of the girls
because they never quit, even
with only four players on the
floor,” said Mapleton coach
Mike Murray, whose team
fell, 27-21. “Even though we
lost on the scoreboard, it was
a moral victory.”
Sophomore Haley Wells
led with 8 points.
Earlier in the week, the
Lady Sailors lost to Lowell
and Triangle Lake, but had
season-high scoring, includ-
ing 16 points from Wells
against Lowell and 13 points
from her against the Lakers.

It was a tale of two halves during
Saturday’s matchup between Siuslaw
and Brookings-Harbor at Glenn Butler
Court, where the Vikings and Bruins
battled it out in a dramatic overtime
finish.
However, by halftime it appeared the
Bruins were heading to a blowout,
B RUINS
outscoring Siuslaw 19-4 in the second
quarter for a 23-10 lead by the break.
“We played very tentative in the first
half,” said Siuslaw coach Dylan Perry.
“When we don’t play with confidence
and an aggressive attitude, we tend to
struggle on offense.”
During the break, Perry gave his
team the goal of getting a shot opportu-
nity with every possession, and playing
more aggressively on defense.
“It wasn’t that Brookings’ defense
was anything we hadn’t seen before,”
said Perry. “We know what we need to

down to getting focused and execut-

Coming into the second half, the
Vikings’ more aggressive execution of
its 2-3 zone began paying off, holding
the Bruins to just 3 points while closing
the gap to within 1 point, 25-26, with
scoring from juniors Trent Reavis,
Kyle King, Jake Hickson and Jared
Brandt.
“It was quite a comeback,” Perry
