CROW fundraiser President Spilde earns CASE leadership award
targets sweet tooth
On Saturday, Feb. 11, at
6:30 p.m. at Three Rivers
Casino Resort Showroom,
things are going to get sinful-
ly sweet as local bakers,
restaurants, caterers and pur-
veyors of delicious treats vie
for recognition and prizes at
CROW’s first annual “Death
by Dessert” fundraiser.
Sweethearts and singles are
both encouraged to tickle their
tastebuds at this Valentine’s
Day weekend party. Guests
will be invited to try samples
of a large variety of decadent
sweets and treats and then
vote for their favorites, kick
up their heels a bit to the Rat
Pack stylings of “Buck and A
Quarter Band” and participate
in a fantastic Silent Auction
and Wine Pull.
And, all of this will be hap-
pening while attendees are
supporting a truly great cause
— local youth in the arts.
Last
year’s
CROW
fundraiser was nearly sold
out, so it is best to reserve
your tickets early. Pre-sale
tickets are $22 each, or $40
for a couple. At the door tick-
ets are $25 each, and $45 for a
couple, upon availability.
Tickets include a large vari-
ety of dessert samples includ-
ing cakes, pies, cookies,
brownies and unique desserts,
live music, the opportunity to
pull a fancy bottle of wine
from a wine wall and to bid
on the amazing baskets,
prizes and desserts up for
grabs.
Doors will open at 6:30
p.m.
The Death by Dessert
theme goes hand-in-hand with
CROW’s production of “The
Addams Family,” a darkly
comic musical.
Bakers may still apply to
enter the contest through
Friday, Jan. 20. CROW is ask-
ing that contestants provide
300 bite-sized tastes or sam-
ples of their best dessert, to be
automatically entered in a
fierce and feisty contest to
win recognition and prizes.
Participants can enter only
one type of dessert (cake,
cookie, brownie, pie or other
dessert), and they must donate
enough for 300 samples.
To reserve your ticket for
Death by Dessert or to get
involved, visit crowkids.com
or contact Melanie Heard at
crowtheatrekids@yahoo.com
or 541-999-8641.

YACHATS—Polly Plumb
Productions Board Member,
Ruth Bass, announces a call
to artists for the Ocean
Artistry Art Quilt Show to be
held
at
the
Yachats
Commons, Yachats Oregon,
on March 10 to 12, 2017.
This juried show will
accept art pieces from local,
regional, and international
art quilters. The theme of
this inaugural show will be
“Gems of the Ocean.”
Details of the call to artists
can be found at www.ocean
artistrycall.com.
Quilt entries will be
accepted between Dec. 15,
2016 and Jan. 15, 2017, and
will be decided by Feb. 1,
2017.
Final judging will be made
by a five-person panel of
artists and dignitaries during
the show.
All selected entries will
be on display during the
Ocean Artistry Art Quilt
show
at
the
Yachats
Commons in the multi-pur-
pose room.
The show will run from 10
a.m. to 5 p.m.
“One of the goals of the
show is to introduce art quilt-
ing to both locals and visitors
to the area,” said Bass. “We
thought the ocean theme
would allow artists to
explore the beauty of this
area and make interpretations
based on their own whimsy.”
The
new
art
show
has already received finan-
cial support from both the
Siletz Tribal Charitable
Contribution Fund and the
City of Yachats’ New Event
Fund.
“We’re delighted to bring
this type of show to Yachats.
This will brighten up the
town and we welcome every-
one to experience an art quilt
show,” said Bass.
