City Lights to screen classic ‘Singin’ in the Rain’
AARP training to begin Jan.11

it celebrates the life of leg-
endary
actress
Debbie
Reynolds with a showing of the
treasured musical classic
“Singin’ in the Rain” on
Sunday, Jan. 8, at 3 p.m.
The screening is being held
in honor of actress, singer,
comedienne, dancer and author
Debbie Reynolds, who became
known as “America’s sweet-
heart.”
Reynolds was known for
many
roles,
from
the
“Unsinkable Molly Brown” to
the hilarious “Tammy” films,
but for many will always be
“Kathy Selden” from the
MGM classic “Singin’ in the
Rain.”
“Whether she died of a bro-
ken heart after the untimely
death of her daughter Carrie
Fisher, we’ll never know,” said
City Lights co-owner Michael
Falter, “but our hearts are bro-
ken just a little bit by the sad
timing of her passing.”
But mourning was not
Reynolds’ style, saying once, “I
face every challenge head on
— and with a smile.”
When she was awarded one
of the leads in “Singin’ in the

BBB warns of scammers after weather damage
As autumn storms push
through Oregon, this is the time
for scammers to blow in as
storm season approaches.
Better Business Bureau
(BBB) serving the Northwest is
warning homeowners to use
caution when hiring help to
rebuild and repair after the
storm.
Before hiring anyone to
make repairs, consumers are
urged to:
• Research a contractor
online at bbb.org. BBB
Accredited contractors are
properly licensed, bonded and
insured.
• Ask the contractor for ref-
erences. Read reviews to see
what past customers have to
say about their experiences.
• Get a contract in writing.
Be sure to take note of the com-
pany’s name, address and
phone numbers.
• Never pay full prices
upfront. Instead, pay for half at
the beginning of the job and the
other half after repairs are com-
pleted satisfactorily.
• Don’t fall victim to high-
pressure tactics. Be sure to ask
for a business card and follow-
up later, if necessary.
