The first will be on Sunday, January 15 at 4 p.m. and the second on Mon- day, January 16 at 5 p.m. Enrollment is now open for the term which begins January 16 for grades 1 through 8. They are also accepting applications for kindergarten through grade eight for next school year. Students are welcome to sign up for a free day of class- es so they can experience the N EW multi-grade environment. The school offers individu- alized instruction, strong aca- demics, relevant Bible les- sons, meaningful community service, interactive partner- ships with other children in the community, and educa- tional field trips. The school is at 4445 Hwy 101 in Florence, at the Florence Seventh-day Adven- tist Church, next to Potter's Tire and Automotive. 3 A VAN FOR VETERANS Rhody Society to meet Jan.17 The public is invited to attend the next meeting of the Siuslaw Chapter of the American Rhododendron Society on January 17, at 6:30 p.m. The group will host a talk given by Don Wallace, owner of Singing Tree Gardens in McKinleyville, California. Wallace has hybridized, propagated and grown from seed many rhododendrons. His current interests include hybridizing for fragrance and for new and exciting colors. He tours and photographs west coast gardens every year. COURTESY PHOTO Thanks to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), local VFW, American Legion, Florence Elks and many other generous donors, including Jerry Blackburn and Al Stapleton who started this program many years ago, a new DAV van (above) will be transporting veterans to the Portland VA hospital. In addition, the small van will contin- ue bringing veterans to the Rosberg and Eugene VA Hospital and Clinic. Three Rivers Casino set to ring in New Year AARP training to begin Jan.11 Training to become a Florence AARP Tax Councilor begins Jan. 11. Volunteers are needed this tax season to assist all age community members with their tax returns. Individuals with tax knowledge and com- puter skills are encouraged to apply. The training program lasts three weeks and takes place at the Siuslaw Public Library in the Bromley Room.
