Hostess Gifts That Show You’re A Blooming Genius
(NAPSA)-If you know smart,
high-achieving high school students
who are looking for a unique, fun
and challenging way to spend part
of their summer, they may want to
consider Yale Young Global Schol-
ars, a program administered by Yale
University. The Yale Young Global
Scholars (YYGS) program offers an
academic enrichment and leadership
development experience that en-
ables high school students to explore
an interdisciplinary curriculum,
meet peers from around the world
and get a taste of college life. The
highly selective, two-week program
is held on Yale’s campus in New
Haven, Connecticut. Need-based
scholarships are available, and high
school sophomores and juniors (or
international equivalent) from all fi -
nancial backgrounds are encouraged
to apply. The application deadline is
January 31, 2017.
“YYGS brings together out-
standing high school students from
around the world to foster intel-
lectual curiosity and empower the
next generation of global leaders, all
while also forging new friendships,”
said director Erin Schutte Wadzin-
ski. “It offers a good balance for stu-
dents interested in learning, career
exploration and summer fun.”
The College Experience
While attending the program,
YYGS participants get to live on
Yale’s campus and explore its li-
braries, classrooms, dining halls and
dorms as they engage with distin-
guished scholars, tackle new ideas
and concepts, and hone their leader-
ship skills.
Carene Umubyeyi, a 2016 YYGS
participant from Kigali, Rwanda,
found the diversity and intelligence
of her peers to be a particularly ex-
citing aspect of the program. “Al-
though we were all from different
corners of the world and had differ-
ent stories and perspectives, we all
shared an eagerness and passion for
learning,” she said.
What They Can Learn
The program, taught primarily
by Yale faculty and affi liates, offers
six intensive, interdisciplinary, sum-
mer, pre-collegiate experiences for
(NAPSA)-You can bring something truly

Gather Round and
See Something Beautiful
The winter holiday season can be a time
to gather together to share the warm senti-
ments of love, friendship and support. Most
folk gather around a dinner table-and what
better way to decorate a holiday table than
with a festive centerpiece?
High school students can get
a taste of college academic life
through a highly selective summer
program at Yale.
2017: Politics, Law and Economics;
International Affairs and Security;
Sustainable Development & Social
Entrepreneurship; Applied Science
& Engineering; Biological & Bio-
medical Science; and Frontiers of
Math & Science.
The rigorous schedule includes
daily lectures from Yale faculty, dis-
cussion seminars and small-group
meetings. Students are required in
each session to complete a writing,
research and presentation project
that includes a teamwork compo-
nent. With no grades or course cred-
it, YYGS encourages students to ap-
proach these projects creatively and
with the understanding that they set
their own limits.
Who They Are
Students accepted to the program
will have:
• Excellent academic records
• Demonstrated leadership poten-
tial
• Strong written and verbal com-
munication skills
• Desire and ability to work coop-
eratively with peers
• Good work ethic
• Ability to read, analyze and re-
fl ect on large quantities of diffi cult
material in English
• High standards of personal and
professional conduct. Students must
be mature and able to engage re-
spectfully and civilly in discussions
over controversial intellectual, mor-
al and political issues.
