MEETING TONIGHT TO FOCUS ON CATCHING WINTER STEELHEAD
Chasing — and catching —
the elusive winter steelhead
will be the topic at tonight’s
meeting of the Florence
Salmon
and
Trout
Enhancement
Program
(STEP).
Dean Hendricks, co-owner
of North Country Lures and
Flies, will guide the member-
ship through tips, locations
and tackle setups.
Annual Christmas Party
December 7,8,9, 2016
2:00-8:00pm
The group meets at 7 p.m. at
the Elks’ Lodge in Florence
and the public is invited to
attend.
A short business meeting
will be held prior to the pres-
entation.
Hendricks plans to bring
maps that will highlight good
locations for both bank fishing
and drift boat fishing for
coastal rivers from the Elk to
Bay Street Family Tyes
1421 Bay Street
Florence, OR 97439
the Coquille, including Ten
Mile, Yaquina, Alsea, Coos
and Siuslaw rivers.
He will also have a number
of rods rigged up with differ-
ent setups and talk about the
use of attractants, including
spinners, eggs and yarn balls.
Being aware of safety issues
is always a part of Hendrick’s
presentations.
In addition to the presenta-
tion, Hendricks and wife, Pat,
will bring lures and rods from
their company to a sale table.
During the business meet-
ing, STEP will introduce the
2017 board of directors, voted
in at the November meeting.
The board includes: Ron
Caputo, re-elected as president
by the board; vice president
Rick Samuelson; Hatchery
Manager Terry Barrett; Bill
Hennig, Tim Hansen, Mike
Gomez, Roger Emigh, Jerry
Barnes and Skip Rosenbalm.
The group will also hear
about plans to begin gearing
up for the winter steelhead
season, including the installa-
tion of the steelhead trap at
Whittaker Creek, hatchery
updates and fishing reports.

tact Caputo at 541-997-4961.
