COOS BAY — From Dec. 9
through Feb. 4, 2017, Coos
Art Museum, 235 Anderson
Ave., will be featuring a large
exhibition of selected works
from
its
Permanent
Collection.
The exhibition opens with a
free reception for the public at
the museum on Friday, Dec. 9,
from 5 to 7 p.m.
“Permanent
Collection:
People and Prints” focuses
on two areas within Coos
Art Museum’s Permanent
Collection — portraits and
figures, and fine art prints.
Many newly acquired
works will be on display for
t
h
e
first time at the museum and
this will be an opportunity
to savor the breadth of
the Permanent Collection
which now includes over 595
works.
Many of the works are by
well-known local artists such
as Gan Martin, while others
are by artists with an interna-
tional reputation such as the
Englishmen Henry Moore and
Lynn Chadwick.
Coos Art Museum’s fine art
print collection is broad —
containing
styles
from
abstract works such as
“Constellations” by the New
York artist Howardena Pindell
to an Art Nouveau inspired
figure by the Czech artist
Dagmar Mezricky.
The museum offers a wide
range of arts activities includ-
ing exhibitions, art classes and
lectures.
Hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.,
Tuesday through Friday, and 1
to 4 p.m. on Saturday.

general, $2 for students, veter-
ans and seniors and free to
Sea of lights to brighten aquarium with spirit of season
NEWPORT — SCUBA
Santa, sparkling lights and an
ocean of holiday cheer will
greet visitors every weekend
this December at the Oregon
Coast Aquarium’s Sea of
Lights celebration.
Over half a million colorful
lights and holiday decorations
will surround visitors with the
spirit of the season as they
explore the aquarium after
hours.
Santa will be present every
night of Sea of Lights until
Christmas to pose for photos
and note visitors’ Christmas
wishes.
This family-friendly event
kicks off with a special cele-
bration on Dec. 3 from 6:30 to
9:30 p.m.
Admission to the first week-
end of Sea of Lights is $2 with
two cans of nonperishable
food for people or pets for the
local food bank.
Entry is $10 per person
without donation. Admission
is free for aquarium members,
but they are encouraged to
bring an item to donate.
Sea of Lights will continue
to illuminate the aquarium
every following Friday and
Saturday of December from 5
to 8 p.m., with the exception
for Dec. 24.
Admission is $10, or free
with same day paid admission.
“Sea of Lights is a fun way
for the Aquarium to give back
to the community. There is no
other place to go see a big
light display on the central
Oregon coast, and you can
simultaneously help stock the
shelves of our local food
bank,” said Lance Beck,
Director of Marketing at the
aquarium.
This year’s Sea of Lights is
presented by Walmart.
Customers that spend over
$100 at Walmart’s Newport
location will receive a voucher
for one free admission to Sea
of Lights at the aquarium.
Offer valid while supplies
last and certain dates are sub-
ject to blackout. See store for

Attendees using a voucher
are encouraged, but not
required, to make a food or toy
donation.

for the dreaded “cabin fever,”
which threatens to afflict the
general populace of the central
Oregon coast every winter.

attend limited-seating Crab
Crack at the Florence Events
Center on Saturday, Feb. 4, from
4 to 7 p.m.
Get rid of those “cabin fever
blues” by enjoying great food
and company while aiding the
less fortunate in this area.
All the proceeds from this
event will benefit Florence Food
Share, a local food pantry that
provides resources to those fac-
ing hunger in western Lane
County.
Oregon coast Dungeness
crab, along with pasta, coleslaw,
garlic bread, sodas, coffee and
BJ’s dessert, will be served by
“crab head” volunteers.
A no-host bar will also be
available.
While savoring the delectable
crustaceans and side dishes,
attendees will also have the
opportunity to purchase one or
many of the special silent auc-
tion items.
Tickets to this event are $35
each, with only 400 tickets to be
available. The deadline for tick-
et purchases is Jan. 25 and will
not be available at the door.
Past Crab Cracks have sold
out early.
