Michelle Holman to speak
at next City Club meeting
Michelle Holman has lived
in Western Lane County’s
Coast Range (Deadwood) for
more than 30 years and has
been active in the anti-herbi-
cide struggle since the late
1970’s.
After many years of her
community’s
unsuccessful
fight to stop government-pro-
tected aerial spraying of toxic
chemicals by private logging
companies, she renounced
traditional activism and joined
the
Community
Rights
Movement.
She has served on the
Mapleton School Board for 25
years, where 20 years ago, the

F
lorence Grocery Outlet and KCST Coast Radio sponsored the
annual Pounding for Florence Food Share on Saturday, host-
ed by event co-founder Cindy Wobbe. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.,
community members brought in donations of cash, canned goods,
frozen turkeys, ham, milk, eggs, treats and pantry staples to fill the
warehouse at Florence Food Share. The day totalled a record-break-
ing 11,111 pounds of food — an amount that will be matched, dol-
lar for pound, by an anonymous donor. According to Wobbe,
$10,000 allows Food Share to purchase 650,000 pounds of food from
Food for Lane County and goes to support the costs of running the
nonprofit Food Share. Director Norma Barton said, “I have a ton of
gratitude for Cindy Wobbe, Wayne Sharpe and Woody Woodbury
for helping over the years and so much. I’m especially thankful for
our volunteers, staff and board for putting in so much work. The
community did an amazing job.” The giving season is not over,
however — Florence Food Share’s annual Empty Bowls Fundraiser
will be at the Florence Events Center next weekend. For more infor-
mation and more ways to donate or get involved, now and through-
out the year, go to www.florencefoodshare.org.

Members of the Florence
Baha’i community, Paul and
Frances Klippel, will be pre-
senting a slideshow and infor-
mation about their recent trip
to Chile on Saturday, Nov. 26,
beginning at 2 p.m., in the
Bromley room at the Siuslaw
Public Library.
The Klippels traveled to
Santiago, Chile, to attend a
historic world event: the ded-
ication of the Baha’i House of
Worship for the continent of
South America.
This dedication is the cul-
mination of a 100-year effort
to build Baha’i Houses of
Worship on each continent.
This goal was realized Oct.
13, in Penanolen, located on
the outskirts of Santiago,
Chile, at the base of the

Andes Mountains.
The dedication of the sev-
enth and final House of
Worship took place with
5,000 Baha’is from 130 coun-
tries celebrating the invita-
tion-only, three-day event.
The Klippels will be shar-
ing and weaving story, videos
and photos of cultural high-
lights of the dedication,
aspects of the beautiful nine-
sided dome architecture,
unique materials used, and
the unifying, sacred spirit
these Houses of Worship rep-
resent.
Baha’is also symbolize
worship and service, two vital
parts of human life, and
Baha’i Houses are open to
people of all religious and
non-religious backgrounds.
At the center of these
Temples is the heart of the
oneness of humanity.
