LCC pottery class hosting
holiday sale to raise funds
This Friday, Nov. 18, pot-
tery students at Lane
Community College Florence
Center will be offering bowls,
vases, plates, coffee mugs
and more during a special
holiday pottery sale.
“The money we raise will
go toward the purchase of a
pug mill, which is a large
machine that we can use to
recycle scrap clay,” said
Geraldine McMahon, a stu-
dent in the Clayworks class.
“It rehydrates the clay so we
can reuse it. Right now we do
it by hand, but it’s getting
harder for some of our older
students.”
Though the machine costs
several thousand dollars, it
would soon pay for itself
with the time and clay saved
by recycling with the pug
mill.
Friday’s sale is from 10
a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Florence
campus, 3149 Oak Street.
Items will be priced from
25 cents to $10.

“Mary earned this award
many times over, both in terms
of what she has accomplished
at Lane Community College
and even more so for what she
has accomplished and con-
tributed to all of us as a collec-
tive of community colleges,”
wrote Presidents Greg Hamann
of Linn-Benton Community
College and Camille Preus of
Blue Mountain Community
College, in a joint nomination
letter.
They added, “As sterling as
her educational and employ-
ment credentials are, they
don’t describe the enormous
impact Mary has had on com-
munity colleges within Oregon
and across the nation.
“Nearly every important
activity involving higher edu-
cation and workforce policy in
the past two decades has her
name associated as a partici-
pant, speaker, facilitator, or
leader,” the letter said.
In a brief acceptance com-
ment, Spilde said her upcom-
ing retirement in June won’t
end her advocacy for commu-
nity colleges, but she hopes it
will temper her 365-24-7
schedule.

A real dude, Dodger loves the bachelor life
and would prefer to spend the rest of his days
as man’s only best friend. Dodger is 8 years
old but age don’t mean a thing to him. He is
always ready for a new adventure and still has
a lot of energy to keep up on long hikes, runs
on the beach and so much more! Dodger is
always very happy to meet new people so
if you would like to visit him please plan to
stay a little while and let him get his wiggles
out by playing in the yard or taking him for a
walk. This is the best way to see Dodgers true
personality!

Dodger has passed his Canine Good Citizen test.
If you own a dog already they must come in to meet me when your application
has been approved.
