Three
Rivers
Casino
Resort’s weekend entertain-
ment Friday, Nov. 4, will be
the band Mr. Wizard from 9
p.m. to 12:30 a.m.
The concert will be held at
Blue Bills Sports Bar & Tap
Room, located inside Three
Rivers Casino Resort, 5647
Highway 126, in Florence.
Mr. Wizard was formed 20
years ago and comes to
Florence from Eugene. The
group is one of the most versa-
tile bands around, shifting eas-
ily from one style to another,
touching on rock, top 40,
country, reggae, funk and
blues.

Library officially adds ‘Eco’ to its art collection
The Friends of the Siuslaw
Public
Library
recently
announced that “Eco the
Dancing Sea Lion,” has a per-
manent home at the library.
With broad support from the
community, the Friends staged
a successful fundraising cam-
paign and were able to secure
Eco during the live auction of
the Dancing with Sea Lions
public art project held Oct. 8, at
the Florence Events Center.
“Thanks to all of the gener-
ous Friends of the Library
members and community sup-
porters who contributed to this
effort,” said Annie Schmidt,
Friends president. “We were
able to place the winning bid at
the auction.”
Since April of this year,
when the 7.5 foot long fiber-
glass sea lion, “Eco and the
Ecosystems of Oregon,” went
on exhibit in front of the
Florence branch of the library,
the sculpture has generated lots
of attention and countless self-

Center’s 20th Anniversary.
“We’re thrilled that Eco is
back at the library,” said Meg
Spencer, Library Director. “We
have created a new display area
for Eco that is visible through
the window of the Children’s
Library. We can’t wait to hold a
storytime with the sea lion next
summer.”
Schmidt and The Friends of
the Library gratefully acknowl-
edged the generosity and sup-
port of the community. “We
invite the public to come see
Eco, still swimming at the
Siuslaw
Library,”
said
Schmidt.

recently installed Florence City
Recorder
and

Development
Coordinator
Kelli Weese as the 2016-17
OAMR Region IV Director.
Weese received the oath of
office at the association’s annu-
al conference banquet held at
the Ashland Hills Hotel in
Ashland, Ore., on Sept. 23.
Weese has been an active
member of OAMR since 2010.
She has served on the Records
Management Committee and
Senior Chief Tim Tregoning
of the U.S. Coast Guard
Station, Siuslaw River, along
with Steve Godin, president of
the Oregon Coast Anglers

Trout
Enhancement
Program (STEP).
The meeting begins at 7 p.m.
at the Elks’ Lodge on 12th
Street in Florence. The public
is invited to attend and learn
more about STEP and the work
it does in the Siuslaw Basin.
Prior to the speakers, STEP
will hold its annual election for
the board of directors.
There are seven seats open
for the nine member board of
directors.
There will also be informa-
tion about opening the Munsel
Creek trap to monitor the coho
and spawn three to four pair to
collect the 10,000 coho eggs to
raise at the club’s hatchery site
in Florence.
Tregoning has been the offi-
cer at the Coast Guard station,
Siuslaw River, since June,
2015.
Prior to coming to Florence,
he was stationed in Guam.
Tregoning will be discussing
the Coast Guard operations on

on the river and in the ocean.
The Coast Guard’s area of
operations runs 16 miles north
to Cape Perpetua and extends
nine miles south to the Siltcoos
River. Its primary mission is
search and rescue for commer-
cial mariners, recreational
boaters and surfers.
Other
responsibilities
include escorting fishing ves-
sels across the bar, marine
environment protection, fish-
eries conservation enforce-
ment, towing and enforcing
boating safety regulations.
The second speaker, Godin,
is president of the newly
formed
Oregon
Coastal
Anglers (OCA) organization.
Godin, who lives in
Reedsport, will share with
STEP the mission and objec-
tive of the group, which formed
out of the Coastal Conservation
Association (CCA) of Oregon.
The group is a nonprofit
organization made up of
anglers from Brookings to
Florence uniting to preserve
and increase angling opportu-
nities along the coast.

Yachats to host
holiday arts,
crafts event
More than 70 booths will
be at this year’s event.
The 19th Annual Harvest
and Holidays Arts and Crafts
Festival by Crafts on the
Coast will feature more than
70 exhibitors this year.
The festival will take place
inside Yachats Commons,
441 Highway 101, in Yachats
on Saturday, Nov. 5, and
Sunday, Nov. 6, from 10 a.m.
to 4 p.m. both days.
There is no admission
charge to this annual family-
friendly event.
