The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at the Elks’ Lodge on 12th Street in Florence. The public is invited to attend and learn more about STEP and the work it does in the Siuslaw Basin. There will also be informa- tion about opening the Munsel Creek trap to monitor the coho and spawn three to four pair to collect the 10,000 coho eggs to raise at the club’s hatchery site in Florence. Tregoning has been the offi- cer at the Coast Guard station, Siuslaw River, since June, 2015. Prior to coming to Florence, he was stationed in Guam. Tregoning will be discussing the Coast Guard operations on the Oregon Coast, including the decisions around opening and closing the bar and safety on the river and in the ocean. The Coast Guard’s area of operations runs 16 miles north to Cape Perpetua and extends nine miles south to the Siltcoos River. Its primary mission is search and rescue for commer- cial mariners, recreational boaters and surfers. Other responsibilities include escorting fishing ves- sels across the bar, marine environment protection, fish- eries conservation enforce- ment, towing and enforcing boating safety regulations. The second speaker, Godin, is president of the newly formed Oregon Coastal Anglers (OCA) organization. The LIHEAP program helps income-qualified households with their home energy bills in the winter. Beginning Tuesday, Nov. 1, nonprofit and senior services agencies that administer the LIHEAP program throughout Lane County will begin plac- ing households on LIHEAP appointment waiting lists. Interested households may place themselves on a waiting list by calling one of the agen- cies that operate the program. Voice Your Opinion! www.StreetsInsurance.com Email: Mike@StreetsInsurance.com EDITOR@ THESIUSLAWNEWS.COM Lane County has not received its LIHEAP alloca- tion yet from the state, but is anticipating a similar LIHEAP funding level as last year. If a household doesn’t get on the LIHEAP waiting list in early November, the house- hold should try again the first working day of each month all the way until June. LIHEAP agencies do re- open their LIHEAP waiting lists more than once each year. To qualify for LIHEAP, a household’s current gross monthly income must be at or below 60 percent of Oregon’s median income level. A house- hold of one person can have a gross monthly income as high as $1,885 and qualify. A household of four people can have a gross monthly income of $3625 and qualify. The amount of assistance a household receives depends on a number of factors. The program pays the assistance directly into a household’s utility account as a one-time payment that can range from $150-$550. Interested households may call one of the agencies listed below to be placed on a wait- ing list.
