MID COAST LAKES:
Rainbow trout stocking
is complete along the mid
coast. Holdover trout will
be available in most lakes
through the summer.
Fishing for the various
warm water fish species is
good this time of year.
There are numerous lakes
in the Florence area that
can provide good opportu-
nity.
SIUSLAW RIVER:
Cutthroat, Chinook
The Siuslaw River and
bay is open for Chinook
salmon. Fishing is fair.
Trolling herring in the
lower bay is an effective
technique. Eggs and bob-
ber can be productive in
the upper bay and river as
the season progresses.
For cutthroat trout, cast-
ing small spinners, spoons
or fly fishing streamers or
dry flies can be very effec-
tive.
Angling for all species
in streams above tidewater
is open. Casting small
spinners, spoons or fly
fishing streamers or dry
flies can be very effective.

Under the threat of rain, Viking sen-
ior Celie Mans proved to be an even
bigger threat during Thursday’s Far
West League district meet at Tugman
State Park, where she retained the
league crown a full 30 seconds ahead
of second place.
“I wanted to give a good effort, and
Jasmine (Chavez) pushed me the first
half,” Mans said after finishing the
5,000-meter race in 18 minutes, 45.67
seconds. Not a personal best, but more
more than enough to secure the title. “I
ran slower than last year, but the condi-
tions made it slower.
“It was more important to run smart
than run fast.”
Despite that, the team’s other four
finishers each ran either a personal

Arlen means pledge or

regal personality. He does

in a gracious manner. We
always expect to see him

his cat tower throne. He is a
