According to Stent, the
Southern Baptist Convention

“They respond to disasters
all over the country and pre-
pare thousands of meals a day,”
she said.
Stent joined the Red Cross

Texas, but became more active
after moving to Florence in
2009.

Moyer said the results early
in the program are encourag-
ing, but there are some minor
difficulties associated with the
new endeavor that were unex-
pected.
“One of the challenges has
been supplies,” she said. “For
example, we have 12 groups
and maybe they need eight
brooms, so we had to purchase
some.”
Moyer pointed out that as the
program becomes more famil-
iar to people in the area, the
needed support will be forth-
coming.
She also singled out an
important recent donation to
the effort.
“We had an amazing dona-
tion from Wal-Mart. They
donated rakes and garbage cans
and a couple of gallons of paint
and some cleaning supplies and
that really helped,” she said.
