Friends host library Rotary names Mapleton ‘Students of the Quarter’
book sale Nov. 5-6
A large selection of books
will be available at the Friends
of the Siuslaw Public Library
two-day book sale scheduled
for Saturday, Nov. 5, and
Sunday, Nov. 6, in the
Bromley Room at the Florence
location, 1460 Ninth St.
The sale will run from 10
a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. A pre-
sale for Friends members will
be held on Saturday from 9
a.m. to 10 a.m. You may
become a Friend’s member
during the members-only
event.
Many books of all kinds
will be on sale. Hardback and
trade paperbacks will be $1
and pocket paperbacks $0.50.
Non-fiction books will include
biographies, cookbooks, com-
puter books, how-to manuals,
travel, nature topics and scien-
tific topics among others.
Fiction books include mystery,
horror, adventure, romance,
science fiction, historical nov-
els and other genres.
Cash, checks, credit and
debit cards will be accepted.
All proceeds of the sale are
used to support the Siuslaw
Public Library and its pro-
grams.

At the Oct. 11 Florence
Rotary meeting, the Mapleton
Student of the Quarter stu-
dents were announced.
For Mapleton Middle
School, Jeffrey Ramsey was
nominated by the teachers at
his school.
Mrs. Larson, Language
Arts teacher, said, “Jeffrey is
doing a good job in class. He
is participating in classroom
discussions in a very positive
manner.”
Mrs. Logan, an instruction-
al aide, said “Jeffrey is adjust-
ing to middle school nicely.
He is showing a lot of growth
and maturity this year.
“He is a good classroom
participant.”
Ramsey said his plans for
high school are to play bas-
ketball and get good grades.

Currently he volunteers for
the Masonic Lodge by serving
breakfast once a month.
For Mapleton High School,
Kyle Doran was nominated
by teachers at the school.
“Kyle has been working
hard this year,” said school
Superintendent Jodi Omara.
“He got the coffee cart up and
running. He also volunteered
his time to help paint bleach-
ers and our play shed. He has
showed tremendous patience
teaching the other kids how to
paint.
“He has showed great lead-
ership.”
Tami Jenkins, who works
as an aide and in the school
office, said, “Kyle has been
doing a great job with the cof-
fee cart in the morning. He is
learning people skills and
cash handling skills.”
Doran’s plans for after
graduation are to go into the
Coast Guard and take para-
medic and fire science train-
ing. Currently, he plays foot-
ball for Mapleton High
School, runs the school’s cof-
fee cart, works at Pop’s
Smokehouse Restaurant and
has volunteered for the local
fire department in the past.
PeaceHealth receives grant for Palliative Care
PeaceHealth Peace Harbor
Medical Center is one of only
10 critical access hospitals in
the state to be awarded a grant
from the Oregon Office of
Rural Health to support quali-
ty-related projects.
The grant will assist in
launching a new Palliative
Care program at Peace Harbor,
providing care to underserved
individuals who are seriously
ill or nearing the end of life.
Unlike traditional hospice
care, it will provide patients
with relief from physical and
emotional suffering alongside
effective medical treatments,
allowing patients to take
charge of their health and be
fully engaged in their health-
care journey.

stressed that the project, which
ensures services are provided
at no cost to the patient, would
not exist without the generous
philanthropy of individual
donors and the PeaceHealth
