OBITUARY
and Dorothy Alvarett Farr.
At Brattleboro High School,
he played on a state champion
football team. Shortly after
graduating from high school in
1945, he was inducted into the
US Navy and served for a year
aboard the aircraft carrier USS
Leyte (CV32) on an anti-air-
craft cannon crew.
Following the war, he con-
tinued his naval service in the
reserves, eventually departing
from the service with the rank
of lieutenant commander in
1970.
He
attended
Purdue
University on the G.I. Bill,
earning a bachelor’s of science
degree in electrical engineering
in 1950.
Residing in Claremont,
Calif., he worked for General
Dynamics from 1952 until his
retirement in 1982, spending
most of his career analyzing
test flights of naval surface-to-
air missiles.
After his retirement, he was
active in the Episcopal Church
and in various charitable activi-
ties, including Habitat for
Humanity, first in Plumas
County, Calif., until 2004 and
then in Florence.
He was married to Gloria

He is survived by Mary and
by his brother, Wendell; his sis-

Vincent Cook; stepsons Robert
and Timothy Stewart; grand-
children Tamara Dirks, John,
Matthew and Chris Stewart,
for the entire month of
October, Central Lincoln
is serving as a drop off site

Thursday, Nov. 10, will
mark the United States
Marine
Corps’
241st
anniversary since it was
founded in 1775.
Local
active
duty
Marines, former Marines
and FMF Corpsmen, along
with their spouses or signif-
icant others, are invited to a
birthday celebration to be
held at the local Elk’s
Lodge on Nov. 10.
Tickets for the occasion
can be obtained by calling
541-991-3256 no later than
Monday, Oct. 31.
Tickets are $20 per per-
son. This includes a no-host
bar from 5 p.m. to the con-
clusion of the dinner party.
Dinner will be served at 6
p.m.
There will be a traditional
cake cutting, remarks, a raf-
fle on a number of baskets
containing Marine Corps.

on items will be held from 7
p.m.to approximately 8 p.m.
