SHIBA to offer Medicare
open enrollment information begin for county
Are you ready for problems, enrollments and transfer stations
Medicare’s next window for
open enrollment?
Every year from Oct. 15
through Dec. 7, people with
Medicare have the opportuni-
ty to change their health and
drug plans.
Companies that offer
Medicare programs make
changes in rates, co-pays,
deductibles, drug lists and
provisions
each
year.
Consumers should receive
information about the 2017
plans by Oct. 1, in time to
review them before open
enrollment ends.
Local SHIBA (Senior
Health Insurance Benefits
Assistance) counselors are
gearing up for appointments
to be held most Fridays dur-
ing Open Enrollment in the
computer lab at the Florence
campus of Lane Community
College.
SHIBA counselors meet
with individuals to personally
assist with Medicare choices,
questions.
Volunteers serving under
the direction of the Center for
Medicare Service offer free,
unbiased advice and services.
To schedule an appoint-
ment, call 800-722-4134.
All 60 Oregon Department
of Motor Vehicles (DMV)
field offices are now accept-
ing debit and credit card pay-
ments after the recent instal-
lation of software, hardware
and completion of employee
training.
The last two installations
were completed Thursday,
Sept. 29, in the Hillsboro and
Sherwood offices.
Prior to this upgrade,
DMV accepted only cash,
checks and money orders at
its field offices.
ATMs have been available
in most offices so that cus-
tomers could withdraw cash,
but the vendor is removing
ATMs now that customers
can use debit or credit cards
for DMV services.
Credit and debit card pay-
ments have been accepted for
online vehicle registration
renewals since 2004.
A pilot launch of DMV’s
debit and credit card system
in May included Dallas,
McMinnville and the two
Salem offices.
With a successful pilot,
DMV sent two teams across
Oregon to install the
new system in its 56 other
offices from June through
September.
“Customer response is
incredible,” DMV adminis-
trator Tom McClellan said.
“Our satisfaction surveys
showed a desire for credit
and debit payments, and
we’re pleased by the positive
response already.
“Legislative budget appro-
val was essential for our suc-
cess.”
The Florence DMV is at
2056 Highway 101, in the
Grocery Outlet parking lot. It
can be reached at 541-997-
6837.
