Approximately 20 area residents gathered at the Florence Events Center Monday to hear a presentation by the
Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF) on Forestland Reclassification. The state has added additional acreage to
its wildfire protection services. A tax of $1.17 per acre with a minimum assessment of $18.75 is levied to help
fund administrative and wildfire fighting costs. ODF Public Affairs Director Ken Armstrong said, “Everyone was
respectful and there was a good exchange of ideas.” Link Smith, District Forester for Western Lane District (right),
addresses attendees during the ODF presentation.

Use natural cleaning products.
Safe cleaning products don’t have to be a
luxury. Natural cleaning products are made
of plant-based, biodegradable ingredients
like corn, coconut and lemon (which leave
no harsh chemical fumes or residue) and are
affordable and accessible — you can fi nd them
at supermarkets, drugstores and mass-market
retailers.
