ADA SCHOLARSHIP FUNDRAISER
Ada Grange will hold its annual
scholarship breakfast fundraiser for
the Harley Huff Sr. Memorial
Scholarship from 7 to 11 a.m.
The cost is by donation.
Breakfast includes biscuits with
sausage gravy or pancakes with eggs
and sausage, juice and coffee.
The Grange Hall is located 10
miles out Canary Road.

S CRAPBOOK F EST ON THE C OAST
Venders offering a variety of prod-
ucts for scrapbooking, crafts, totes
and jewelry will be on hand for the
Scrapbook Fun Fest at Three Rivers
Casino Resort.
Five classes, ranging from card
and banner making to scrapbooking
techniques will be offered, along
with make-and-take vendors
throughout the day.
Admission to the festival is $2 or
two cans of food, all of which will
be donated to Florence Food Share.
The event will be from 10 a.m. to
10 p.m.

ACES OFFERS C HURCHILL SERIES
The Adult Continuing Education
Series presents a Great Courses lec-
ture on Winston Churchill Oct. 3
through Nov. 7 at Lane Community
College Florence Center. As part of
the class, students will view a lecture
by a Churchill scholar, J. Rufus
Fears.
An interactive discussion, facilitat-
ed by David Ripley, will follow.
The eight-week class will meet
from 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.

SSWCD MEETING SET
The Siuslaw Soil and Water
Conservation District will hold its
monthly scheduled board meeting at
the district office, 1775 Laurel Place,
Ste. No. 4, in Florence, at 6:30 p.m.
D ISASTER SKILLS CLASS BEGINS
The CERT Basic Course consists
of 24 hours of classroom training
followed by a 3-hour Disaster
Simulation Exercise where attendees
demonstrate the disaster prepared-
ness skills learned. Each of the
three-hour classes are scheduled for
Monday and Wednesday evenings
with morning and afternoon classes
on Saturdays.
The class will be at Siuslaw Valley
Fire & Rescue, 2625 Highway 101,
from 6 to 9 p.m. weeknights and 9
a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays, with an
hour break for lunch.

L EARN ABOUT CARCINOGENESIS
On Oct. 13, from 4 to 6 p.m., there
will be a meeting to discuss current
gaps in healthcare services in our
community. The meeting will
encourage community members to
look at positive ways of working
with medical providers on the fol-
lowing: primary care providers, den-
tal care, mental health services, serv-
ices for uninsured individuals and
issues for people living upriver.
The meeting will be held in the
Bromley Room of the Siuslaw
Public Library, 1460 Ninth St.

The Siuslaw Public Library begins
its exciting October adult program-
ming schedule with the appearance
of Dr. Charles M. King, an expert in
the field of carcinogenesis.
The study of carcinogenesis (the
production of cancer) has been
King’s lifelong focus. The retired
scientist will speak on this topic at 1
p.m. in the Bromley Room at the
library’s main branch in Florence,
1460 Ninth St.

in operation for coastal patients, who
