Rock with Steel Wool Saturday at Pop’s October RAIN includes
Steel Wool, a Eugene
acoustic rock band, will per-
form in Mapleton this October
as part of the band’s four-bene-
fits-a-year policy.
On Saturday, Oct. 1, the pop-
ular band will perform at Pop’s
Smokehouse in Mapleton to
benefit the Mapleton Pre-
Kindergarten Program.
In addition, they just com-
pleted — both performing and
volunteering — five days at the
Autism Rocks Friends and
Family Camp, where they have
been an integral part of that
event’s success for many years.
“All of us are part of one
community, and all of you are
part of our lives,” said Tim
Mueller, songwriter for Steel
Wool. “We are all in this togeth-
er, doing our best to
make it work for every-
one.”
Inspired by CSN, the
Eagles and Paul Simon,
these four musicians
breathe fresh life into
deep grooves cut by time
and experience, bringing
acoustic rock into the
21st century.

Tickets are $5 each, or $25
per pickup truck and there is a
prize for “best dressed truck.”

the impact RAIN has had on
the community over the past
year and the way it continues
to reach out to entrepreneurs
and innovators.

Acting class available for adults in Florence

Giving members a sense of
community connection and
citizenship is another focus
of the club.

kids play games with the
seniors and they do arts and

explore characterization, moti-
vation, diction, stage presence,
dealing with stage fright and
how to audition.

idents and on Valentine’s
Day last year we did cards.
“We are connecting the
kids to the community. Our
community has been so sup-
portive to this club. That
enables these kids to have
these opportunities and to
have the programs that we
have. I want these kids, from
a very young age, to under-
stand that they have been
given a gift. When you
receive a gift, you also have
a responsibility to pass it on.
That is what we have been
trying to do on the citizen-
ship side of the program,” he
added.
A new Teen Center pro-
gram starting this year is
called “Smart Girl.”
“This is a program that has
been developed by Boys and
Girls Club of America, work-
ing with a number of differ-
ent organizations,” Trent
said. “It looks at a variety of
areas. We will be talking
with the girls about topics
like self-esteem, confidence,
relationships and dating.”
By next spring, Trent said
he believes the elementary
program will have between
85 and 100 students and the
Teen Center will have about
50 members. This is in addi-
tion to the several hundred
members that participate in
the club’s many after school
sports, cheerleading and
drum corps programs.
“Everything the club is
doing going forward is based
on giving these kids the life-
skills that are going to create
opportunities for them, so
that no matter where they go
or what they do after they
graduate, they will have the
essential skills to help them
be successful,” Trent said.
