‘Showcase of Homes’ Sept. 17, 18
It’s been a number of years
since Florence home builders
have had the opportunity to
showcase their craftsmanship
by participating in a Tour of
Homes.
However, with the signifi-
cant increase in new construc-
tion over the last year or so,
local builders felt the time was
right to bring back the
Showcase of Homes Tour.
The free event will take
place Sept. 17 and 18, and is
sponsored by The Shippin’
Shack and Brian Lacouture
Building, LLC.
The Showcase of Homes
Tour offers a diverse selection
of homes in various price
ranges, sizes and locations
throughout Florence.

Soroptimists to host ‘Bras for a Cause’ fundraiser
Soroptimist International of
Florence (SOF) is gearing up
for an inaugural fundraiser
called “Bras for a Cause.”
The funds raised at this
event will support local schol-
arships, awards and other edu-
cation-related programs, such
as human trafficking awareness
and the “Dream It, Be It” pro-
gram for teenaged girls.
The auction will be at the
Florence Events Center on
Saturday, Oct. 15, starting with
a no-host bar at 6 p.m.
Dinner will follow at 6:30
p.m.
Silent and dessert auctions
are planned as well.
Table sponsorships are avail-
able that include dinner tickets,
advertising and a torso for a
decorated bra that will be part
of a live auction.
The deadline for sponsor-
ships is Sept. 16.
At this time, sponsors

CROW opens doors to community today
After years in the making,
Children’s
Repertory
of
Oregon Workshops (CROW) is
ready to play the music and
light the lights at the new
CROW Center for the
Performing
Arts,

Highway 101 in Florence. The
grand opening is today, Sept.
10, from 5 to 9 p.m.
CROW invites the commu-
nity to attend its grand opening
celebration and Wooden Crow
Fundraiser at its new home.
Starting at 6 p.m., CROW
singers Kayla Rose, Cecile
Fleming, Haylee Cole, Elyse
Stewart, Alizabeth Norton and
Nyah Vollmar will perform
songs from musicals, pop and
classic rock.
A group of CROW students
will also sing “Freak Flag”
from April’s performance of
“Shrek the Musical” and
“Home,” by Phillip Phillips.
Two of CROW’s advanced
actors — Hope Garcia and
Ceasar Castillo — will perform
monologues perfected during
this year’s summer camps.

the chance to sponsor one of

for CROW.
Most crows will be available
to sponsor for $50, but some
crows will be auctioned off
during the event. All the crows
will go on permanent display
inside the performance space
and will include both the artist
and the sponsor’s names.
All money raised will help
CROW complete the rest of the
needed building renovations.
During
the
reception,
CROW Center for the
Performing Arts will have
snacks and facility tours of the
rehearsal space, classroom,
kitchen, ADA-accesible rest-
rooms and spaces still under
construction.

maker, contractor, volunteer
and patron who has made it
possible, we are sending out
our immense gratitude,” said
Melanie Heard, CROW artistic
director. “We could not have
come this far without their
help.”
